Lethbridge Synchrobelles wrap up season at Wildrose Classic

The Lethbridge Synchrobelles Synchronized Swimming Club wrapped up their season at the Wildrose Classic provincials meet  at the University of Lethbridge  over the weekend.

The Synchrobelles had six swimmers in the event.

For Danielle Koop, it was her first year back in the pool after a 20-year hiatus.

“For me,  I’m excited just to show that this can be a skill or a sport that you can carry on through into adulthood and to just show my family and friends what I’ve been working on all year,” said Koop.

Koop thinks the Classic included making  swimmers a little more nervous because of seeing a wide arrangement of skill levels.

“But it makes you excited to keep working harder and to strive to do better.  And it gives you new ideas too because there’s such creativity in this sport that often you see new and unique things each time you watch a swim,” she said.

Koop added, “The  atmosphere is great. There’s lots of energy, lots of people cheering us on and we’re excited to have Lethbridge and our community come and watch.”

She danced to an African warrior-type song and placed second in her Solo Masters category.

Koop said it’s been a really fun year.

“We’ve got a great group of girls who are working hard,” she said.

“So it’s been fun especially to watch the younger girls and cheer them on.”

“We’ve been working really hard,” said Sara Kindt, Synchrobelles head coach.

“It (is) six weeks from our last meet. So we were working really hard at polishing our routines off. The girls were doing amazing at practices. So it’s so rewarding to get here and show everybody what we’ve done over the last period of time. They’ve improved so much throughout the season.”

The 11-12 age category Synchrobelle team of Bentley Darroch, Cleilia Garcia, Avah Johnson and Mataya Shukaliuk placed fifth in the championship and sixth in routine.

Brianna Sillito came fifth in the championship and sixth in routine in the Solo category.

All the swimmers took home placing ribbons.

The Synchrobelles have a smaller club at this current time and are always looking for new members to join in the pool, no matter the experience level.

Swimmers have to be ages five and up as well as adults too.

A free trial will be held on May 3 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
