The Lethbridge Hurricanes signed their 2022 first round draft pick William Sharpe on Monday.
Sharpe was selected by the Canes 11th overall in last month’s Prospects Draft and appeared in 21 games with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 last season while accumulating 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists).
“I know lots of NHL players who have played there [Lethbridge] and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Sharpe in a Delta Optimist article following being selected be the Hurricanes in the Prospects Draft. “I’ve just heard a lot of great things about the organization including from Dylan Cozens’ dad.”
Sharpe also appeared in four regular season games with the Yale U17 team along with three postseason games with the U18 club.
He also suited up for the Pro Hockey Selects U15 team at the WSI U15 Showcase and named the top defenceman at the John Reid U15 AAA tournament
“We had [Sharpe] in the top-3 defenseman all year; to pick him at number 11, we are pretty ecstatic,” said Hurricanes Head Scout Rob MacLachlan after the 2022 draft. “He is a two-way defenseman, he can rush the puck, he can go end-to- end, he can score goals and he’s quick to get back on defence.”
Sharpe is the first 2022 Hurricanes prospect to sign with the club.
