LVC’S Sargent preparing for 2022 Canada Summer Games

Jacob Sargent is excited to participate in the Canada Summer Games and a competition he calls the best he will play in yet.By Justin Seward

Lethbridge Volleyball Club U18 player Jacob Sargent is in the midst of prepping for the U19 Team Alberta that will be competing in the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara in August.
Sargent had to go to ID selection camps after getting identified through Premier tournaments throughout his club season.
“Then at our first and final formal try out on May 28 and 29 in Edmonton, the team was selected from there,” said Sargent.
“It was actually the weekend after Nationals. So my body was still kind of recovering from that. But I was also good coming off a high level of play and being able to go back into the training environment of Team Alberta with that kind of experiences I got from Nationals. So it was good to go right back into it and yeah I thought I did really well at the camp.”
The camp was narrowed down to 24 players ,with 12 travelling spots opened.
“It was great seeing the guys who are a year older than me and have that experience of a year of U Sports and playing at that level and kind of the knowledge they brought back down to me just at that training camp was awesome and I can’t wait to keep working with those guys throughout the summer as we get ready for Niagara,” he said.
Sargent said ,from a competition stand point, this will be the best competition he ever played in up until this point.
Sargent thinks this is first step in making the transition from a minor club career to a more serious focused university career and beyond.
He has been preparing in the gym through his university strength and conditioning program to focus building his body for the next level of play.
The Chinook High School will be a student-athlete next year at University of Alberta where he will play volleyball.
The 2022 Canada Summer Games are Aug. 14-22 in Niagara.
