Lethbridge residents of the 1800 block of 6 Ave North offered others in the community a chance to take a stroll through the neighbourhood while taking part of a block-wide yard sale.
Block yard sale organizer Judy Sakal Meier said all 23 households agreed to the event, some took part of it while others opened their street to entrepreneurs from across the city.
She said they decided to do it in hopes to change people’s perception of the city’s northside.
“We started being known for the community of the crime area, you don’t want to be over there area but it’s changed,” said Sakal Meier.
She said she wanted to make sure people knew her neighbourhood is not a bad area and the people are friendly.
“It’s just meant to show that the community is still here and we’re still going strong,” said Sakal Meier.
She said the west side and south side of the city also have problems, but for some reason whatever has happened in the North side stuck, and they want to make sure people knew that was no longer the case.
The city of Lethbridge provided them with road blocks and the whole 1800 block of 6 ave N was closed off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Sakal Meier said that even though many events were taking place across the city on Saturday they had a good turn out.
