Neudorf to promote Alberta on U.S. trip

By Lethbridge Herald on July 16, 2022.

Two Alberta MLAs will advocate for Alberta’s interests and build stronger relationships while attending the Council of State Governments (CSG) West Annual Meeting.

Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf and Banff-Kananaskis MLA Miranda Rosin will travel to Boise, Idaho, from July 18-23 to meet with lawmakers, industry representatives and other delegates from CSG West jurisdictions and attend the organization’s 75th annual meeting.

“Conversation and collaboration with our American partners is vital. Meeting with key legislators and decision makers in the western U.S. provides a prime opportunity to discuss the challenges we face today and how Alberta products and companies can provide effective solutions. It is an honour to represent Alberta in this way to strengthen our ties with this important region and maximize our relationship, to the benefit of everyone at the table,” said Nathan Neudorf, MLA for Lethbridge-East and Alberta’s representative to CSG West, in a press release.

CSG West is a regional multilateral forum that brings together lawmakers and government leaders from 13 states including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Alberta and British Columbia, and the U.S. territories of the Commonwealth of Guam, American Samoa and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are associate members.

Mission expenses will be posted on the travel and expense disclosure page.

The United States is Alberta’s largest trading partner and Alberta is the second largest provincial exporter to the U.S. In 2021, Alberta’s exports to the U.S. totalled $122.7 billion.

Top Alberta exports to the CSG West states in 2021 include energy ($18.9 billion), agriculture and agri-food ($3 billion), forestry ($2.1 billion) chemicals and plastics ($2 billion) and manufacturing ($595.3 million).
