WINTERS

It is with great sadness that we wish to inform you of the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, HELEN LOUISE WINTERS, of Lethbridge, at Fairmont Extendicare on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at the age of 88 years.

Helen is survived by her loving husband Victor, sons Gerald (Kathy) of Rimbey, AB, Ken (Liz) of Golden, BC and Gary (Susan) of Lethbridge and daughter Lorna (Wade) of Coaldale, as well as eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Helen met and married Victor Winters in May of 1954 in Milk River, Alberta. They moved to Moose Jaw, SK for two years, then returned to Milk River to make their home. Mom always had a big garden. She froze and canned the produce for the coming winter. She loved her sweets and always had something baked sitting on the cupboard. She was an avid seamstress, and sewed many clothes for us kids as we grew, and made many of dad’s clothes. Later, she enjoyed quilting which she won many awards for. She was always busy with her hands, crocheting, knitting and doing needlepoint. She also loved playing cards and dancing. In her retired years, Mom and Dad traveled and spent the winters in Arizona.

Helen was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be missed by all of us.

The family would like to thank the staff at Fairmont Extendicare for the amazing care they gave Mom.

At Helen’s request, there will be no funeral.

WRIGHT

Mr. Ronald W. Wright (age 85) peacefully departed this earthly life on July 12, 2022, with his loving family by his side. Ron was born September 12, 1936, along with his twin brother in what was then the Galt Hospital, making them some of the last Galt babies.

He is survived by his wife Sheila (Jensen), and his children; Tattianna (Dennis) Douglas, Tara (Richard) Van Komen, Lindsey (Dorren) Brebner, Jaden (Karla) Wright, and Latasha Wright. Ron was also blessed to have several grandchildren; Richelle (Gavin), Rylan, Tate, Tamryn, Ashton, Jack, Garret, Owen, Ella and Carson.

He is also survived by his siblings; Marie Holthe, twin brother Roy (Marlene) Wright, Louise (Roy) Michelsen, Bill (Louiene) Wright, Karyn Healey, Harvey (Marsha) Wright, and Glenda Wright.

Ron was predeceased by his parents; William and Melba (Litchfield) Wright, his brother E. Bruce Wright, son Torbin, brothers-in-law; Alan Holthe, Brie Jensen, and Ken Healey, sister-in-law Cherie Wright, and in-laws A. Glen and Fern (Hodgson) Jensen.

Ron spent his life in Vauxhall, AB, where he attended and graduated from Vauxhall High School. He continued on from school to work on the farm. He was a dedicated farmer and father, where he worked and lived until three years prior to his passing. Ron raised pigs, cattle, sheep, dogs, and herds of various small pets, in which his children begged him to bring home. His daughter Lindsey was the driving force in obtaining a pet sheep, which quickly evolved into a flock of sheep. Ron supported Sheila with raising various dogs; although his favourite was always a childhood “Heinz 57” that would carry his hunting rifle.

Ron was an active member of the LDS church, serving as a ward clerk for almost 30 years. He worked for the PFRA and the BRID helping to construct the Travers Dam and building canals. He was also a representative on the REA for many years. When not working on the farm, Ron was often found hunting, playing baseball, curling, attending his children’s activities, and of course sleeping with a TV remote in his hand while some sort of sports played on.

Ron was lovingly cared for by his family, especially Latasha, aka his “shrimp” nurse, and wife, Sheila in his later years.

The family would like to thank all those who helped Ron and who visited with him.

Services to be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the West Highland North Stake Centre (560 Highlands Blvd W, Lethbridge, Ab) at 11am. Lunch will be served following the service. Interment to follow at Barnwell Cemetery.

Live stream of the service will be available, and a link will appear, under Ron’s obituary, on Christensen Salmon Generations FH website, 15 minutes before service time.

As Ron would say, “See you all in the funny papers”!
