Jones looks to leadership role with Hurricanes

Olds’s Jett Jones has three full seasons under his belt with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and is now going in to his 20-year-old season with the club.

“It was really good,” said Jones, on his off season.

“It felt like forever for the last couple of weeks here. But worked out a lot, skated a lot, tried to really improve my game and have a little bit of fun with the summer too. So it was really good.”

He wants to be a leader on the ice every night with being an over-ager.

“We’re the oldest guys,” said Jones.

“They look up to us — the younger guys. So showing them the right way to play, being there for them if they need somebody to talk to, just helping them out and ultimately try help everybody to play their best to have team success.”

Upon the completion last season, his focus was on his speed and skating.

“You know be able to compete every night, compete against the top guys and help the team win, said Jones.

Jones thinks the Canes will be a great team once the puck drops on the 2022-2023 season.

“I think we’ve got a lot of upside this season,” he said.

“Everybody’s come back, everybody’s ready. I think complete roster, we’re really good from top to bottom. So I think for the team I think we should play as hard as we can (and) I think good things will happen. There’s a certain way we have to play and I think the group of guys we’ve got here pushing for spots know that way and I think everybody’s capable for it.”

“I think for us this year right off the bat, we got to find our identity, find the way we play and stick with it all year,” he said.

Jones pocketed 20 goals last year and hopes to light the lamp more this year.

“He’s one of our captains,” said head coach Brent Kisio.

“I think he led us last year and did a great job and it was a good experience for him being a captain É He’s returning as a captain with (Joe) Arntsen. I thought he did a real good job late in the season, did a lot of scoring for us and hopefully this year right off the start it can go that way.”
