The Lethbridge Hurricanes picked up their second win of the season after defeating the Saskatoon Blades 3-1 on Tuesday night to open up a three-game road trip.
The loss for the Blades was their first of the season after starting the season 3-0.
After a first period, the Canes Logan Wormald scored his first goal of the season less than two minutes into to the second period to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Cole Shepard and Logan McCutcheon drew the helpers on Wormald’s goal.
One of the new Canes this season, Anton Astashevich, also scored his first of the campaign at 7:23 of the second to make the game 2-0 Lethbridge. Dustin Renas and Tristan Zandee picked up assists on the game-winning goal.
Zandee joined the parade of first goals of the season as he would pad the Hurricanes lead to 3-0 at 14:39 of the second period from McCutcheon and Tyson Laventure.
However, Saskatoon would get one back under a minute later as Egor Sidorov scored his fourth goal in this young campaign and that is all the scoring that would happen in this contest.
The Canes Harrison Meneghin made his first career Western Hockey League start in the game and stopped 28 of 29 shots.
On the other side, the Blades’ Austin Elliott kicked out 18 of 21 Canes shots.
Lethbridge went 1-for-4 on the powerplay and Saskatoon went 1-for-5.
The Hurricanes will continue their road trip tonight in Prince Albert against the Raiders at 7 p.m.
With the win, the Hurricanes record now sits at 2-1 on the season.
