The Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer picked up 12 points between the two teams after picking up two wins each this weekend.
“Yeah it’s obviously huge right,” said head coach Sean Carey.
“It kind of solidifies our places in the standings and you know we needed those 12 points and in our minds we were expected to get those 12 points going into the weekend. But we don’t take anybody lightly. That was definitely something that we needed to have happen because other teams are beating each other, and you know for us to get those six points per gender (team) and give ourselves an opportunity next weekend against SAIT and Olds, to be able to solidify our places for championships.”
The women’s side shutout both of their opponents by a combined score of 14-0.
In the 3-0 road win on Friday in Medicine Hat, Taylor Hrycun scored at the fourth and 14th minute and Montanna Rousselle notched a goal at the 43rd minute.
“I thought our girls were a little bit just out of sync on Friday in Medicine Hat,” said Carey.
“I thought that was a game that we should’ve really taken control of and we didn’t. But they rebounded on Saturday against Ambrose and scored some wonderful goals and played some great football.”
The female Kodiaks thrashed Ambrose 11-0 at home on Saturday.
Ashley Sazalski and Nikky Stahl led the way with three goals each, while Megan Morrison, Malorie Hanson, Sammy Demchuk provided singles and Olivia DePasquale scored two goals to round out the offense.
The women’s record sits at 5-2-1 on the season and are third behind SAIT and Red Deer .
The men’s side beat Medicine Hat College 3-0 on Friday and Ambrose 5-2 on Saturday.
Jaxon Uhl scored two while and Charlie Block supplied a goal against MHC.
Liam Frost led the attack against Ambrose with two goals and Uhl, Brian Sure and Ethan Meerkerk scored in the second win of the weekend.
The men sit at 3-1-3 on the season and are second behind SAIT.
“You know we said all along that this is going to be a team that just needed some time to kind of get used to playing with each other,” said Carey.
“We’ve done some different things at training this year and just give them an opportunity to get used to playing with different players and they’ve stepped up from day one. And the last three weekends they’ve played such good football right now and they’re going to be tough to beat.”
