After a perfect road trip last weekend, the Lethbridge U18AAA Hurricanes followed that performance by dropping a pair of games this weekend.
The Hurricanes were shut out 3-0 by the Edmonton Jr. Oilers Blue on Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Arena.
Nate Tillmanns of the Oilers scored a shorthanded marker at the 11:56 of the first period and that marker held up until the third period.
Jacob McKague notched a powerplay goal at 7:56 of the third period, followed by a Spencer Masters empty netter to solidify the win for the Oil.
“When you continue to take selfish penalties, that’s what happens,” said Canes head coach Sean Gillam.
“The game’s an honest game. They played a heck of a game over there; their goalie played a great game. But when you continue to shoot yourself in the foot and you don’t show up to play, hockey’s an honest game and you get what you put in. We did not put in a good enough effort.”
The Canes lost to the Calgary NW Flames 3-1 on Sunday.
The Flames’ Brett Wilson scored in the first period and Joshua Wiebe notched a second period tally to give the home team a 2-0 lead through two periods.
The Canes Carter Cunningham scored at 4:55 of the third before Calgary’s Murray Kanerva sealed the win for the Flames with an empty netter.
Lethbridge’s record sits at 3-3.

However, it was a different story for the Golden Hawks on Saturday as they were clipped 5-1 by the Airdrie Extreme on Saturday.
