Family of missing woman mourning their ‘shining light’

By Lethbridge Herald on October 26, 2022.

RCMP have confirmed the body found Monday near Coalhurst is that of missing Lethbridge woman Tia Blood and a man has been arrested and charged in relation to the investigation.

The family of Tia Blood is remembering her as a gentle person, a loving wife, mother and friend.

On Wednesday RCMP confirmed that a body discovered near Coalhurst earlier this week was that of the Lethbridge woman who had been missing since Oct. 19

RCMP say an autopsy was conducted at the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Wednesday and the deceased was identified as 34-year-old Tia Blood. They say the manner of death has been deemed inconclusive and remains under investigation.

On Wednesday police also released that they have charged 20-year-old Hunter Alexander Frank, of Lethbridge, after he was arrested in relation to the investigation. He has been charged with offering an indignity to human remains and two counts of theft under $5000.

“It is believed that Tia passed away on the night of October 19 or sometime during October 20,” reads the release from the RCMP.

Members of the Lethbridge Police Service Criminal Investigation Section, acting on information obtained during the missing persons investigation, located the woman’s body on Monday near Range Road 225 and Township Road 92, southwest of Coalhurst, after which they transferring the investigation to the RCMP.

Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen a teal green tarp on the west side of Range Road 225, along the fence line, any time after Oct. 19.

The woman’s family released a statement Wednesday asking for the public to be respectful while they are grieving.

“This news has devastated our large and loving family. Tia was our shining light and words cannot describe how much she will be missed. She was a loving wife, a mother of two wonderful boys, daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend to many. Tia was silly, non-judgmental, genuine, generous, loyal, dedicated and protective. She lived for her boys. She loved all children and was great with all of her relatives’ children. She was a good student, and she put people before herself. A gentle woman, she liked her sweets and liked to bake. Tia took care of her health and was prayerful.”

In their statement, the family pleaded with the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances of Tia’s death.

“Please be mindful that our family is grieving. Any speculation about the circumstances surrounding her death are especially hurtful to our family. Please don’t take part in spreading rumours about our beloved Tia.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank our family, friends, volunteers, allies and our community of Kainai for the outpouring of prayers, love, donations and support. Your actions have helped us cope and given us strength.”

It’s disrespectful to read about how to earn $90 per hour after reading such a gut wrenching story . My thoughts and prayers go out to Tia’s friends and family.
