IRWIN, Doreen IRWIN, Doreen (nee Thompson) November 10, 1921 – December 23, 2022 Doreen was the world’s greatest mother. That is the opinion of her two daughters, Bernice and Geraldine. As her daughters grew up, they experienced a spotless house, delicious meals including homemade bread, and a mother who would willingly take the time to play games with them. They always felt valued and loved. All this continued into adulthood. Doreen’s home an ideal place to celebrate both the important and unimportant days of her family’s lives. She was always empathic and wise. Doreen was born and raised in the hamlet of Hardieville along with her two sisters, Kay, Phyllis, and brother, Bernard. She met and fell in love with Raymond Irwin (1918-2004) and they were married in 1945. They farmed in the Sunnyside district near Lethbridge until 1972 when they sold the farm and moved to Lethbridge. Doreen worked in the advertising department of the Eaton’s Department store for 22 years where she made many friends. She was a person of boundless energy. Thus, despite the fact she worked, she managed to knit many beautiful afghans and created needlepoint pictures. In retirement, she was an active member of a camping group and the Nord-Bridge Senior Centre. She moved to St. Albert in 2015 where she could be close to Geraldine. She lived most of that time in the Citadel Center. Doreen is survived by Bernice Bohnet (Bruce) and Geraldine Kroeker (Wayne, who passed away on June 16, 2021), grandchildren Lesley and Darren Kroeker and two great grandchildren, Margot and Henry Glennie.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Citadel Care Centre for the excellent care Doreen received at this facility.
At the family’s request no formal service will be held. Cremation entrusted to Memories Funeral Home.

Betty moved into Foremost following John’s death in 2018 and enjoyed her time in the Fairway manor.
This poem written by Betty, awarded a silver medal at the southeast zone of the Alberta 55+ Games, pretty much sums up her life philosophy.

Like women everywhere I have lived my life. I didn’t climb a mountain. I didn’t fly to the moon. I didn’t discover penicillin. I raised my family. Five beautiful children make their way in the world. I kept my home. I loved my neighbour. I laughed, I cried. I am at peace. I have lived well.
There will be no formal Funeral Service held.
If you wish to do something in Betty’s memory, stop and smell the flowers, donate to a favourite charity, hug the ones you love.
