MILOS, Mary

MILOS MARY ANN MILOS, beloved wife of Joseph Milos of Lethbridge, passed away at her home, surrounded and comforted by her loving family, on December 24, 2022 at the age of 84 years.
Along with her husband, she is lovingly remembered by her children, Randy (Barb) Milos and their daughter, Jennifer of Calgary, Alvin (Cathy) and their children, Angela (Mike) Pharo and Felisha Milos, Lory Milos of Lethbridge and her daughter, Calais (Travis Schamber) of Edmonton, Larry Milos of Okotoks and his children, Amanda (Brent) Neumiller of Calgary, Tyler and Shawna Milos, both of Okotoks, Joanne Greenly of Lethbridge and her daughter, Veronica (Corey) Greenly-Bird of Calgary, three great-grandchildren, Addison Milos, Malakai Neumiller and Isabella Milos as well as two sisters, Josephine Lyons of Lethbridge and Dorothy Toth of Creston, BC.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Olga Snopek, in-laws, Joseph and Mary Milos, son-in-law, Patrick Becklund, brothers, Joey, Ernie and Rudy Snopek, brothers-in-law, Steve and Frank Milos.
Mary Ann was a wonderful cook for 30 years including both at the Golf Course and The Cactus in Picture Butte, AB. Her families especially benefited from her love of baking. She enjoyed keeping busy and had a passion for creating beautiful quilts. Mary Ann was a very caring and loving wife and mother but her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.

SLEN, Gail

GAIL SLEN 1956 – 2022 Ms. Gail Slen of Lethbridge, beloved spouse of Mr. Dan Sudo, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the age of 66 years.
Gail was born and raised in Lethbridge and spent a lot of her younger years enjoying her families cabin in Waterton. Gail’s family owned Pruegger’s Music and was surrounded by music her entire life, she loved her music and loved to dance. She was a very outgoing, giving “people person” who had the ability to chat with anyone with ease. She was an avid scrabble player. Her smile could light up a room and she had an amazing sense of humor.
Gail is survived by her loving spouse Dan; father Bill Pruegger; sister Lori Williams-Freeman, she had a very special bond with Randy and Jo Slen and many other extended family members.
Gail was pre-deceased by her mother Annabelle Pruegger; husband Garth Slen and her niece Georann Williams-Freeman.
As per Gail’s request, no service will be held.

VAN STAALDUINE, Betty

VAN STAALDUINE, Betty Betty Van Staalduine, beloved wife of the late John Van Staalduine for 62 years, died on Friday, December 23, 2022.
Betty is survived by their 5 children: Jerry and his wife, Cathy and their children, Glenn, Blair and Morgan; Lenora; Lyndon (Moose) and his wife Jackie and their children, Kaitlyn and husband Grant Heidinger, Brady and Kasi; Patti and her partner Darcy Faller and their children, Amanda and husband Kris Kristianson, son Kallum, Kristle and partner Dustin Baynham, son Bradly and Vance; Tim and his wife Debra; as well as 2 sisters: Sylvia Robinson and Norma Graham. Betty moved into Foremost following John’s death in 2018 and enjoyed her time in the Fairway manor.
This poem written by Betty, awarded a silver medal at the southeast zone of the Alberta 55+ Games, pretty much sums up her life philosophy.

Like women everywhere I have lived my life. I didn’t climb a mountain. I didn’t fly to the moon. I didn’t discover penicillin. I raised my family. Five beautiful children make their way in the world. I kept my home. I loved my neighbour. I laughed, I cried. I am at peace. I have lived well.
There will be no formal Funeral Service held.

MARKUS, Dwane

DWANE MARKUS 1964 – 2022 Dwane Edward Markus was taken from us too early on November 4, 2022, at the age of 58.
Dwane was born on May 12, 1964 to Karl and Alveda Markus in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was a colorful character and a collector of many things. Dwane lived most of his life in the Lethbridge area, venturing out and living in Kamloops and Wasa for a period of time. His last home was on the farm where he had settled for the last 15 years with his three cats and whatever wild animals came by for a visit.
Dwane always wanted to lend a helping hand to anyone that asked; his big heart always said yes. You could always find him having a campfire, stoking the fire and chatting about the old days and plans for the future with his friends and family. His presence will be truly missed by his many friends from Lethbridge, Monarch, Wasa and White Lake Colony.
He leaves behind his sister, Karen Markus (Jim Hill); his nephew Clint Marsters (Tamara); niece Candace Marsters (Johannes Krouthen) and their families; Kannon, Diora and Linnea. His close cousins who always kept him in check: Dennis Brady, Barb Nast, Len Markus and Lorraine Thompson. He also leaves behind his daughter, Tianna McInnes.
He was predeceased by his parents Karl (2018) and Alveda (2020) which left his huge void in his life.
The memories of him will bring smiles, as he always had one for you.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, January 14, 2023. the ROCKY MOUNTAIN TURF CLUB, 3401 Parkside Dr S, Lethbridge, Alberta. We will also celebrate the life of Alveda Markus and Pete Markus (Dwane’s Uncle who passed November 19, 2019) which were postponed at their time of passing.

MARGARET ELIZABETH “BETTY” CAMERON 1922 – 2022 Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Cameron, age 100 years and 1 day, passed away at Fort Macleod Extendicare on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 11:55pm. She was born December 26, 1922, in Eugene, Oregon.
She was the loving wife of the late Mr. William “Bill” Cameron who passed away May 2, 2011, and loving mother to Dianne (Stan) Perrin and Donna (Keith-deceased) Hunter.
In her early married life, she resided on their farm east of Granum and was also employed at the local grocery store, hardware store and telephone office. She held various positions in Turner Valley, Bow Island and Raymond where Bill was Postmaster. In retirement, they lived in Lethbridge and attended McKillop United Church.
Betty had artistical and musical ability and played the piano (by ear) from a very young age until her late 90’s. Her piano, built in 1919 was seldom idle. Her home was immaculate, and she made the best EVER apple pies.
Betty is survived by her two daughters and was blessed with 4 grandchildren Gordon Perrin (deceased), Lyle (Andrea) Perrin, Kelly-Jo Hunter and Trevor (Roxy Hofer) Hunter; 9 great-grandchildren Samual (Jamie) Perrin, Sydney (Brennan) Graham, Shelby (Jesse) Hernandez, Holly (Bryce) Shreffler, Jessie Perrin, Haley Perrin and Jennifer Perrin; great-great-grandchildren Ava and Amelia Hernandez, Braylee and Avery Graham, Sampson Perrin and Presley Shreffler; sister Mary (Jim-deceased) Ruller and brother Alfred (Colleen) McNeil.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects 1 hour prior to service time at Martin Brothers Riverview Chapel.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 – 4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Reverend Trevor Potter, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.

VISSER, Abe

VISSER It is with both joy and sadness that we announce that ABE VISSER has gone home to be with The Lord. Abe passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on December 28, 2022 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 87 years.
He leaves behind his loving wife Shirley of 65 years, his children: Ann (Randy) Esselmont, Linda (Jim) Knight, Jerrold (Dawn) Visser, and Edwyn (Kim) Visser, as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother George (Jan Tichler) Visser and sister Rose (Hank) Stronks.
Abe was predeceased by his brother Mike Visser, his daughter Marian (John) Vanderwoude, and grandson Justin.
A Memorial Service for Abe will be held at MARANATHA CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH, 260 McGill Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jim Zondervan officiating.

DICK, Leona

DICK The family of LEONA DICK (nee Klassen), wife of the late Henry John Dick, are saddened to announce their beloved mother’s peaceful passing at the Foothills Medical Centre, Calgary, on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.
Leona was born to her Russian Mennonite parents Henry and Katherine Klassen in a small rural farmhouse in Coaldale, Alberta on August 1, 1926. She was the middle child of ten siblings, including Jake, Henry, Rudy, Bertha, Anne, Mary, John, Len, Waldy and Irene.
The family eventually settled in farming community of Vauxhall, Alberta, helping to form the core of the Vauxhall Mennonite Church community, where Leona developed her faith that supported her throughout her life. Leona loved attending school, until she was needed at home to support her mother in the care of her younger siblings.
The Klassens resided on the “Stock Farm”, which provided a beautiful house and yard and became the center of many Church Young People’s gatherings. It was there, on Leona’s 16th birthday, that Henry decided that she was the one for him, and Leona agreed! They were married on December 28, 1944, a marriage of commitment and love that endured and grew stronger through 77 years until Henry’s passing on March 20, 2022.
In 1952, Leona and Henry obtained their irrigation farmstead in North Hays on the “Loop”, where they raised their five children: three sons – Ron (Linda), Allan (Anne Mundt) and Wayne, and two daughters – Wendy Timmermans and Barb (Rod) Lanser.
Leona loved the farm in all four seasons. She worked tirelessly to support the farming operation, and to create a beautiful farmscape of flowers, lawns, trees and garden. But more than anything, she created a home that welcomed everyone. She was the essence of love, and her beautiful nature had the ability to make everyone feel nurtured and cared for. Her children and grandchildren loved their time at the farm, where so many wonderful memories were formed. Leona’s warmth and generosity extended beyond her family. They took in foster children and provided care for Leona’s mother as well.
When Wayne started school, Leona became a teaching assistant at Hays School. She loved the community and the microcosm of the school, the camaraderie of the staff, and the interaction with the children. She was kindness personified.
In 1988, Leona and Henry made the momentous move to Lethbridge. Although this was ‘retirement’, both Leona and Henry quickly became caught up in volunteer opportunities as well as more time for sharing time with their friends and family. They strongly supported the Lethbridge Mennonite Church, which continued to nurture their faith. Leona volunteered many hours with the PARTY program – Prevent Alcohol Related Trauma in Youth at the Chinook Regional Hospital for grade nine students. After undergoing treatment for breast cancer, she volunteered with the Reach for Recovery program to support other women with that dreadful diagnosis. She really enjoyed time at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, with the social and exercise programs. She provided loyal support and counsel to Henry in all of his endeavors. He often said that she was his best and wisest listener, a true helpmate.
Family times continued; grandkids always knew there was ice cream and sprinkles, butterhorns and cinnamon buns at Grandma’s! Card games – rummy, Uno, tile rummy, dice – Grandma always had time to play and to hug. There were many happy celebrations of anniversaries and birthdays.
Throughout her later years, Leona was challenged with many health concerns. But for her, age was only a number, not a predictor. Her recovery always seemed to surprise others, but we could say, “But you don’t know our mom!” She exemplified love, commitment, kindness and determination, which kept her coming back. She and Henry had a deep and abiding love, and she wanted to be as able as she could possibly be for him.
In the past few years, because of their diminishing health, Henry and Leona moved several times to facilities in Lethbridge that could support their growing needs. They moved from River Ridge to Elim Village, and then to Legacy Lodge. Upon Henry’s passing in March 2022, Leona decided that she would like to be closer to her children, and in August, she moved to Airdrie Care Community. Leona was always so thankful for the support and care from her friends and the care facilities; leaving her friends and her church community was difficult.
In this past December, our lives were all enriched by the wonderful family time we celebrated with our Mom. She participated in a ZOOM call celebrating her sister Bertha’s 100th birthday. She had phone visits with friends; she had visits with all of her children, several grandchildren and great-grands, and we shared an early Christmas dinner. She was so happy!
Leona passed peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on the morning of December 20, 2022, after suffering a stroke three days prior. We grieve at her passing, but also celebrate the long, amazing life and love that she shared with us.
Through the years, our parents’ cherished family grew to include their children and their partners, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. Leona is also survived by her siblings (and their partners) Bertha, Anne, John, Waldy and Irene, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved Henry, son-in-law John Timmermans and daughter-in-law Susan Dick.
Thank you to everyone who has enriched Leona’s life with your love, support and friendship over the years. Thank you to our church and extended family, and to the many caregivers who provided comfort, stability and security in Leona’s daily life. We are forever grateful.
The final celebration of our precious Leona’s life has been arranged, with a Viewing at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825-32nd Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, January 13th, 2023, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the LETHBRIDGE MENNONITE CHURCH, 4303-3rd Ave. South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Ryan Dueck officiating. The Funeral Service will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Leona’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Leona will be laid to rest with her beloved Henry in the Vauxhall Mennonite Cemetery.

Ann Evans 1935 – 2022 Anna (Ann) Marie Evans (Helfrich) passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Michael’s Health Centre, Lethbridge, on December 26, 2022, at the age of 87 years.
Ann was predeceased by her husband William; her parents Frances and Martin Helfrich, one son, Audwin Steier; sister and brother-in-law Rose and Anton (Tony) Dirk; brothers, Simon (Sam) Helfrich and Christopher (Chris) Helfrich.
Ann was born on June 30, 1935, in Prelate, Saskatchewan and is lovingly remembered by her children, Melinda (Alain) Alexandre of Lethbridge, Brenda Steier-Sacopaso of Red Deer, Barry (Carol) Steier of Medicine Hat, and William Evans (Cheryl) of Calgary; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Ryan, Natasha, Chelsey, Sashia, Shawn, Matthew and Mackenzie; nine great grandchildren, Chante, Jenna, Savanna, Ryker, Shay, Teagan, Camron, Jaycob and Isabelle.
Ann grew up in Empress and Prelate, Saskatchewan. She Lived in Swift Current, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Vauxhall, Taber and Lethbridge, Alberta. On March 23, 1979, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II graciously awarded Anna Marie Evans the Most Venerable Order of “SERVING SISTER of THE ORDER OF ST. JOHN”, after countless years of dedicated teachings for the St. John’s Ambulance. Ann, in her retirement years, enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flower gardens.
A Memorial Service will follow in the Spring of 2023.

WHIMSTER, Jennifer

JENNIFER NEUFELD WHIMSTER October 4th, 1969 – December 25th, 2022 JENNIFER ANN NEUFELD passed away suddenly at Seasons Retirement Community on Sunday, December 25th, 2022, at the age of 53 years.
Jennifer is survived by her parents, Jack and Patricia Whimster; daughters, Kaylene Neufeld, Kelcey (Ryan) Aleman; grandson Waylon Aleman; brother, Don Whimster and his son Nick Whimster; sister Shannon (Clint) Collier, and their children, Brady & Kyra Collier; sister, Trish (Emily) Whimster; Aunt Sue O’Donnell & Aunt Cheryl O’Donnell & many beloved cousins.
She was predeceased by her Grandparents, Thelma and Fred O’Donnell; Grammy Jean Whimster as well as her uncle Dennis, Terry and Jim O’Donnell.
Jennifer was born and raised in Lethbridge, Alberta. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1987 and went on to obtain her degree in Nursing from The Lethbridge College. Jennifer worked as a nurse at the Picture Butte Hospital and the Lethbridge Regional Hospital for a number of years. While she was working, she often shared her love for the career that she had chosen.
In her early years, she had a passion for soccer. She was on the original 69′ Chargers Soccer team. This was the first ever girls’ team to win a provincial championship. Following that success, the team continued on their winning streak becoming the 1983 Provincial and Western Canadian champions, and Canadian finalists. That success landed them a spot in Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame. For Jennifer, this was a notable time in her past that she often spoke about. Being able to finish off her soccer career, playing side by side with both of her sisters, “The Whimster girls”, was also a time that was special for Jennifer. Jennifer held those moments close to her heart.
Jennifer was a daughter, a mother, a sister, an aunty & most recently ecstatic to be a grandmother. Family was her most cherished gift and she always felt our unconditional love.

LIND There’s angels in the room..
It is with profound sadness and gentle relief that we announce the passing of our kind, compassionate, funny, charming and oh so handsome dad, GARY HOWARD LIND, on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the age of 82, after a long, brave battle with dementia.
Gary is survived by daughters, Tracy, Kim (Dave) Lawanda (Rob) and son Jim, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Hayley, Aidan, Emlyn, Madesen and Masen.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 51 years Julene, his mother Florence, father Howard and stepfather Ardell.
There’s not much we know for sure in this life, but of this we are certain; We will miss you always and love you forever. And if heaven has a restaurant, it would most certainly be called “Jo’s Bar and Grill”, where cheeseburgers, Hawaiian pizza, ice cream and ice-cold Pepsi would be the only things on the menu, and crossword scratch tickets while you wait. Save us a table daddy, we will meet you and mama there…. Oh Frosty, how I wish you could stay….
A private family Celebration of Life ceremony will be held.

EAGLE BEAR, Michael

EAGLE BEAR It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of MICHAEL ROCKY JETT EAGLE BEAR who was called home to be reunited with his beloved mother Andrea Tara Day Chief on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the tender age of 21 years old.
Michael is survived by his father Rocky (Jamie) Eagle Bear, his loving siblings: Brendan Hudson Noah, his twin sister Michaela Andi, Zack, Kadence, and Maria; his grandparents Nora Eagle Bear, Lucille (Eugene) White Quills, and Andrew Winold (Benita) Creighton; and great-grandmothers: June Day Chief, and Teresa Wadsworth; Michael was also a godfather to Stanley, who he loved to spoil. We will never forget his loving smile and his kind, generous, and caring spirit that was felt by many people.
Michael was born on April 7, 2001, to his late mother Tara Day Chief in Lethbridge, AB. He grew up on the westside of Lethbridge, AB. As a child, he was known for his mischievous curiosity and loved to spend time with his younger cousins. When Michael was very young, he put his foam sword in the furnace and ran around his grandpa Winold’s house with the sword in hand screaming fire. He loved spending time at all of his grandparents’ homes. In his younger years, Michael enjoyed skateboarding, playing tag, and basketball and somehow broke or fractured his bones in all three of his favourite sports/games. When Michael was younger, he loved watching WWE with his brother Hudson and stepdad Charles. Michael would put a belt on and reenact the wrestling moves with his brother Hudson. When Michael and Michaela were swimming, he had almost drowned her, not realizing it, from re-enacting one of his wrestling moves. Michael and Michaela had lots of crazy adventures as children. One of the times, Michael and Michaela were not listening to their mom when she told them to buckle up while she quickly went into the store, when the two of them jumped into the front seat. Michaela’s foot had hit the stick shift and the vehicle started rolling back and Michael had grabbed the wheel and turned it. The vehicle bumped into a tree but if it wasn’t for Michael they would have driven into oncoming traffic. In 2018, shortly after his mother’s passing, Michael cooked an Easter dinner and invited his close friends and family.
Michael graduated in 2019 at Chinook High School in Lethbridge, AB. Shortly after graduating, he started working at Sunrise Poultry, catching chickens. Michael met one of his best friends, Jake McDonald, while working at Sunrise. They later worked together with BMT Construction until shortly before his passing. Michael was a hard worker, and was always willing to lend a helping hand no matter what the job was.
Michael has a large family and extended family, and is survived by his uncles and aunties: Eugene, Jade, and Jeanelle White Quills, Jayce, Lennie, and Alfreda Small Eyes, Mary, and Angela Creighton, Craig (Shannon) Wells, Darcy Day Chief, Sheridan Denton, Garret (Nadine) Tailfeathers, Rhonda (Rob) Crow, Alanna Eagle Bear, Coby (Jack) Royal, and Hank, Gordie, and Lydia Bruised Head. He also leaves behind his special cousins he took as brothers: Jayden Creighton-Fox, Tyreese Scout, Brendan Wells, and Payton Tailfeathers as well as his special aunties: Darcie Doore, Elaine Creighton-Fox, and Glenda Day Chief.

BLAXALL, Lucile

Blaxall, Lucille Matkin Oct. 28, 1929 – Dec. 17, 2022 Lucille (Lucy) Blaxall, nee Matkin, born October 28, 1929, died December 17, 2022, in Rodez, France, while visiting family and friends. Lucy is predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings. Lucy is survived by her children Shauna Hunter (Rob), Norris Blaxall, Melanie Walthall, Luanna Schmelter (Jeff), Burns Blaxall, Lisa Foggin (Rod), and grandchildren Sarah Robertson (Christian), Brad Hunter (Angie), Krista Emrich (TJ), Josh Hunter (Maddy), Adam, Jacob, and Michael Walthall, Mallin, Maya, and Hayden Blaxall, Kira Schmelter, and 14 great grandchildren.
Lucy was born in Magrath, Alberta, to Charlie and Ireta Matkin. She married her high school sweetheart Jim, on July 15, 1954. She enjoyed a brief career teaching elementary school until she decided to stay home with her children and be a Homemaker, ensuring the house they lived in felt like a home. Family was important to her. She was a skilled seamstress and sewed many things for her family and others. Over the years, Lucy enjoyed a life of service not only to her family, but to many different organizations, some of which include The Calgary Philharmonic Ladies League, Heritage Park, the Lung Cancer Association, and the Heart and Stroke Association. Lucy was an accomplished pianist, and once all her children had entered school, she taught piano for over twenty years. Lucy was highly engaged in her church, serving in various capacities. Her favorite way of serving was generally anonymous. Most notably, Lucy was well-known for her cookies, which she shared generously.
She is described by her children and grandchildren as: always up for fun, with a deep love of the outdoors and mountains, a quick smile, and for being lively, loving, supportive, engaging, creative, optimistic, always looking out for other people’s needs, and being a stalwart and loyal friend.
A funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at the Parkland Chapel, 14540 Parkland Blvd SE, Calgary. Viewing will begin at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral service. A graveside service will be held at the Magrath Cemetery at 3:30 PM the same day.

POBERZNICK, Clara

CLARA POBERZNICK 1931 – 2022 The family of Clara Poberznick (nee Tschritter) are heartbroken to announce her passing on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at the age of 91 years.
Clara is survived by her daughter, Cheryle (Bill) Sangster and by her daughter-in-law, Janice Poberznick along with grandchildren, Darcy (Cheri) Bernhart; Troy (Mandi) Bernhart; Cale (Lindy) Poberznick and Hayley Poberznick. She also leaves to her memory her great-grandchildren, Blaine & Brock Bernhart; Dawson, Caitlyn, Addison & Brinlyn Bernhart; Remi & Bode Poberznick. She is survived by one sister, Betty Kultgen and one sister-in-law, Vi Hickman along with numerous nephews and nieces. She will also be remembered by Bill’s children, Bryan Sangster Kelly, Cam Sangster, and Jessica Sangster.
Clara was pre-deceased by her husband, Nick in 2016 and son, Blaine in 2019; her brothers Ben and Albert Tschritter and sisters Barbara Kultgen and Alice Grey.
Clara was born on February 9, 1931, in Redcliff, Alberta to parents, Ben & Tena Tschritter. She spent her childhood in Redcliff and then Foremost. Clara met Nick Poberznick at a dance in the spring of 1949 and on October 3, 1949, they married and took up residence in Skiff, Alberta where their daughter Cheryle was born in 1951 and son Blaine in 1953. They ran the General Store at its original location and then in the early 80s a new store was built by the community of Skiff and Nick and Clara stayed there for another 15 years. Clara was a member of the Skiff Ladies Variety Club and was the Avon lady for the area. She also worked in Foremost for a time and then ran the office at the Alberta Wheat Pool grain elevator in Skiff. Clara loved Avon and she sold it in the community and then began to ship it across Canada and the United States. She was given many awards as a top seller and took trips to conventions all over the States and continued to sell Avon until about five years ago. Clara was very quick witted and always had a funny story to tell about the people and years they spent in Skiff. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Leone Johannson

1935 – 2022

  Leone Margaret Johannson, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the age of 87 years.

  Leone is survived by her husband Baldur Johannson and their children Jason Johannson and Arica (Daron) Jensen; grandsons Cole, Spencer, Carter and Skylar Jensen. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Betty Ann Rydberg, Marsha Rydberg, Grace Fridfinnson and Francis Knippelberg; brother-in-law Irvin (Rosalind) Johannson and by numerous nieces and nephews.

  She was predeceased by her son Sheldon Johannson; her parents Edwin and Karin Rydberg; brothers Leonard, Clarence (Polly), Glenn and Alvin Rydberg. She was also predeceased by Baldur’s parents Gunnlaugur and Lillian Johannson; brothers-in-law Harold Johannson, Leifer Fridfinnson and sister-in-law Rosalind Sugden.

  Leone had many wonderful attributes, two of which that will be missed the most are her dedication to family and service to her community. At a very young age, Leone learned the value of service to one’s community.

She didn’t stop serving her community until a few short years ago when her health would no longer permit. Over the years, Leone served as a Girl Guides leader, Scout leader, a temporary hockey coach, Sunday School coordinator and was the Canyon Church Camp Chairman (where she was affectionately known as “Mama Bear”).  She also served on the Taber Food Bank board for many years and always helped organize the Christmas hampers, ensuring there were enough presents to go along with the hampers.  Perhaps one of her greatest accomplishments was serving Taber Special Needs in many different capacities for more than thirty years.

  Even with all of her commitments to different organizations within her community, Leone’s greatest commitment was to her family. She lobbied the government long and hard to help get the first Taber Special Needs residence (North Res) built for her son and other clients of TSN. Not a day went by that Leone didn’t visit with her son and others living with him (where she was affectionately known as “Mrs. J”). As grandkids came along, she was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it was taking each of her grandkids to the parent preschool program or helping out at kindergarten. If she was needed, she was there. As her grandchildren grew a little older she never missed a (home

ice) hockey game or music recital! Her grandchildren were truly her pride and joy!

  “While we are so saddened to see her go, we can only imagine how joyous her reunion with her son Sheldon was!”
