MEHEDEN, George

GEORGE THOMAS MEHEDEN May 2, 1940 – Jan. 16, 2023 It is with a great deal of sadness that we acknowledge the passing of an amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and our friend, George Thomas Meheden on January 16, 2023 at the age of 82 years.
George was born at the “Old Galt” Hospital in Lethbridge A.B. on May 2, 1940 to George and Caroline Meheden. His formative years were spent on the farm in the Sunnyside district, working alongside his father who instilled in him strong work ethics and to do everything to the best of his ability.
In 1961, George married Anne Kerr, a city girl, and they set off on life’s adventures for almost 62 years.
In 1963 George hired on with Dowell working mostly in Northern Canada until he transferred to Dowell Schlumberger in 1969. George and family moved to Libya North Africa. Arriving just in time for the Libyan Revolution. Next on to Venezuela South America, London England, Antwerp Belgium, Aberdeen Scotland and working the North Sea before finally returning to Canada.
In 1991 he took early retirement due to health concerns. While he was in Malta, George had been diagnosed as having Ankylosing Spondylitis., which is Rheumatoid Arthritis of the Spine.
In 1992 George decided he needed to keep busy and active, so he purchased a Motel in Creston, B.C. and operated it for almost 25 years. He enjoyed tending to his gardens and orchard, building furniture, renovating, and making amazing muffins for hotel guests. He especially enjoyed his Grandchildren spending all their summer holidays helping him.
He filled our home with music, tools, pets, noise, memories, and books. George was a voracious reader of Canadian War history and Egyptology.
He was a private person who absolutely loved his family, lived his life to the fullest, trying to not let Rheumatoid Arthritis slow him down. He gave us such wonderful, amazing memories.

GREGG, Jean

JEAN MARIE GREGG Nov. 14, 1931 – Dec. 11, 2022 It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our beloved Mother.
Jean was born in Crookston, MN to Willis and Margaret LePoidevin, she had two younger brothers Willis Casey and Kenneth they grew up together in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.
Jean graduated High School in Bonners Ferry and would attend Eastern Washington University to pursue her teaching degree. After graduating, Jean taught School in several cities in the US.
Jean was offered a teaching position in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, so being the courageous person she was she said yes to Canada.
She arrived at the Canadian border with five children driving a white Cadillac and horse trailer in tow.
In the fall of 1967, the amazing Mrs. Gregg was introduced to School District 51.
Jean would teach School at Lakeview for most of her thirty-year career. She was an incredible teacher and was passionate about teaching kids never a dull moment in her classroom. She made learning fun inspiring kids to dream big and believe anything was possible if they worked hard.
Jean truly enjoyed every day at Lakeview School and cherished the moments she had with her students and fellow teachers many of them becoming lifelong friends. One of her favorite hobbies was being a member of the Bluebird Association and building nests for the wild bluebird habitat with her friend Eleanor.
After retiring from Teaching, Mom traveled extensively throughout Canada and the USA.
Mom would make yearly trips to see her brother Casey in Fort Worth, Texas driving her red Honda all the way. Jean would go visit her son Scott in Phoenix, AZ. She would buy a winter home in Mesa, AZ. and would spend many winters there, loving the hummingbirds and desert flowers.
Jean loved to explore and loved new adventures.
On one of her many trips, she would travel on her son Greg’s 65-foot fishing boat as a deckhand from Seattle to Alaska. My brother was an incredible tour guide teaching her the life of a commercial fisherman. Mom said it was a trip of a lifetime.
Mom had so many different interests and loved debating politics with her son Michael and talking about the stock market. Mom loved learning about new things, she read every day and listened to CBC news on her radio. Jean also had a passion for flowers she truly loved growing them, arranging them, it was her happy place. She would always have fresh-cut flowers around her home it was a luxury she enjoyed. Her daughters Deborah and Julie shared her love of flowers and planted many beautiful gardens together.
Jean lived a thousand lifetimes.
In her final letter to her children “My life would have been worthless without you kids, as you made my life worthwhile, I love you so.”
Jean will be greatly missed by her children Deborah (Harry), Greg, Julie (Jack) and Scott. Jean was predeceased by her son Michael. Her loving grandchildren Casey, Krista, Jessie, Cody, Savannah, Dylan, Lexi, and Jaeger. Great grandchildren Remi, Jada, David, Nathan, Jason, Kyson, Kaycee.

DIDYK, Frances

FRANCES DIDYK 1933 – 2023 Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Mrs. Frances Joan Didyk passed away on January 30, 2023.
Mrs. Didyk was born in Coalhurst, Alberta and raised her family in Enchant and Lethbridge.
Frances is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years Alex Didyk. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Kirk (Jo-Ann), Christine, Kathy (Larry), and Patrick; grandchildren: Kevin, Terrena (Kyle), Melanie, Doug (Melissa), Raymond, two great grandchildren as well as numerous other family and friends.
Frances and Alex enjoyed travels to the USA, Eastern Canada as well as their many casino bus trips together. Frances had a 22 Year employment history with Sears, excelled at paper tole, working on puzzles and was an excellent cook. She loved her pets, her rose garden and mostly her beloved family.
Frances will be forever missed by her family and friends. The family would like to thank the many compassionate people who helped care for Frances during her final days.
At Mrs. Didyk’s request no funeral service will be held. A private family Celebration of Life will be held in spring. Memorial donations in Frances’s name may be made to the Lethbridge Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre in lieu of sending flowers.

STEED, Colleen

STEED Colleen Steed, 93 of Raymond, Alberta passed away on the 28 of January 2023 in the Raymond Hospital. Colleen was predeceased by her husband Robert Dean Steed and son Stephen. She is survived by her daughters Carol (Roy) Singleton, Rae Ann (Kevin) Archibald and sons Robin (Ramona) and Tyler Steed, her brothers Doug (Marie) and Gary Christensen. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in Raymond at the Knight Street Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 4th, 2023.

PETERSON, Gordon

GORDON PETERSON 1942 – 2023 It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon Clifford Peterson in Milk River, Alberta on January 26, 2023, at the age of 80 years.
He is survived by his wife Lorna, daughter Rhonda (Brad) of Salt Spring Island, BC, and son, Brent (Donna) of Milk River, grandsons Dustin (Shelby) and Tristan (Mackenzie), and great-grandson, Weston, all of Milk River.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clifford, and Martha (Meta) Peterson.
Gordon was born in Lethbridge, AB, the only child of Cliff and Meta Peterson of Coutts, AB. He was raised on the family farm near Coutts, attending Coutts School and Milk River High School, then on to SAIT to obtain his Agricultural Mechanics diploma in Calgary, before returning home to farm.
Throughout his life, Gordon was very involved in his community. Early on he was active in Boy Scouts, even attending the 1959 World Scout Jamboree in the Philippines, then going on to become a Leader for several years. As an adult he served with the local Ag Society before becoming a UFA delegate for many years. He was also involved with IAEA (International Agricultural Exchange Association) bringing young farmers from around the globe to work in and experience Southern Alberta.
Gordon’s local commitments ramped up when he was elected councillor for the County of Warner, serving for 19 years. His contribution to the community was rewarded with many memories and lifelong friendships.
Gordon still made time for fun, joining the curling club, snowmobiling and winter card nights with neighbors and friends. Taking his young family snow skiing was also something everyone enjoyed.
Upon retirement, Gordon and Lorna were able to travel, enjoying warm winter places, and a spectacular caravan to the eastern provinces and Atlantic Canada. A trip to Europe provided a chance to visit some former IAEA “students”.
Gordon’s last few years were spent in Milk River Long Term Care. With Lorna’s regular visits and homemade treats, Gordon knew he was loved until the day he passed. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday surrounded by his family, whom were all blessed to have the opportunity to see him hold his great-grandson, Weston.
Gordon will continue to be loved and dearly missed as a Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Friend and Neighbour.
A celebration of life for Gordon will be held at a later date.

HUNT, Albert

HUNT ALBERT ANDREW HUNT passed away peacefully at St. Michael’s Health Centre, on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the age of 75 years.
A Wake will be held at OLD AGENCY HALL, Blood Reserve, AB, on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at OLD AGENCY HALL on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Martin Heavy Head officiating.
Following the Funeral Service, Albert will be laid to rest in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

LAW, Lauraine

LAW, Lauraine (nee Thibert) It is with profound sadness that the family of Lauraine Law (Thibert) announces her passing on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the age of 81 years. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, John; daughter, Barbara (Gordon Bruce) Sawka; and son, Stanley (Sandra Franklin-Law); her grandchildren, Noah, Abigail and Seth Law; as well as her sister and brother, Corinne Palmer and Robert (Laurie) Thibert; sisters-in-law, Agnes Thibert, and Carol Thibert. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Romeo and Juliet Thibert; brothers, Gerry and Romeo Thibert; nephew, Doug Thibert; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken Palmer, Joyce and Ashley Bassett. Lauraine was a loving, caring and compassionate person to all. She was a mother of two, grandmother to three, and a mother/grandmother figure to so many more. She always had time for everyone and made you feel welcomed and cared for. She will be dearly missed by those who had a special relationship with her and the many friends she had in her life. We wish to acknowledge and thank the family and friends who afforded Lauraine and our family comfort, friendship and kindness. A Celebration of Lauraine’s life will be held at a later date. MOTYCKA, Anne

MOTYCKA ANNE MOTYCKA passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the age of 92 years.
Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband John.
Anne is survived by her seven children, Garry (Leslie) Motycka, Karl (Josje) Motycka, Ron (Rina) Motycka, Francie Martin, Jean (Greg) Kautz, Judy Collett, and John B. Motycka; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren as well as brothers Frank (Agnes) Machacek, Martin (Anne) Machacek, and John (Margo) Machacek; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Anne touched the lives of all those who knew her and our time with her was treasured. She accomplished much in her life, including being active in her church and community.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Anne’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Following the Funeral Mass, Anne will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband John, in Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Anne’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation (www.heartandstroke.ca).
