Accused shooter remaining in custody until bail hearing

A 38-year-old Lethbridge woman accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend during a dispute earlier in the week, will remain in custody at least until Monday, when she is scheduled to have a bail hearing.

The matter for Kristina Hatcher was in Lethbridge provincial court for the first time Wednesday when duty counsel simply adjourned the case until next week. The accused, who is remanded at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, was not required to attend court.

Lethbridge police reported that at about 6:26 a.m. Monday they responded to a 911 call that a man was assaulted in his home on Rutgers Crescent West. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for a gunshot wound, and reportedly remains in hospital in stable condition.

Investigators determined the 54-year-old victim confronted his ex-girlfriend and another man, and following a brief verbal exchange was shot by the woman and physically assaulted by the man. The two assailants then fled in his truck. The truck was recovered a short distance away, and two suspects were arrested without incident later in day. Police also seized a firearm.

Hatcher is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assault/choking, theft of a vehicle, discharging a firearm with intent to injure, use of a firearm while committing an offence, careless use/storage of a firearm, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized.

Robert Duane Vincent, 41, of Claresholm, is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, assaulting/choking, theft of a vehicle, discharge a firearm with intent to injure, use of a firearm while committing an offence, careless use/storage of a firearm, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowingly possessing an unauthorized firearm, mischief, possession of a firearm contrary to an order, robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Vincent’s first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

According to a news release issued by the Lethbridge Police Service, police also charged Hatcher with mischief, possession of a firearm contrary to an order, robbery with a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. However, those charges were not included on the docket when her matters were in court Wednesday.
