LEVERETT, Anthony “Tony” ANTHONY “TONY” LEVERETT 1937 – 2023 Anthony (Tony) Leverett of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Shelagh, passed away suddenly on March 24, 2023, after a short and cruel battle with Mesothelioma. He was 85 years old, which may come as a shock to many people who knew him, as Tony was eternally youthful.
Tony was born in London, England to Frederick Leverett and Eva (Garvey). He was employed as a double decker bus driver for London Transport before emigrating to Canada in December 1970, where he practiced his trade as a barber at various establishments, before opening his own barber shop at the Sandman Inn, Tony’s Barber Shop. Tony made many friends of clients, some of whom had been coming to him for over 50 years. The sudden onset of mesothelioma forced Tony into early retirement, otherwise he may never have retired. Tony really enjoyed working and conversing with his clients about many subjects, but mainly sports. Tony’s first love, other than his family, was soccer, followed by baseball and basically all sports. He always had music playing in his shop, especially big band. He had many pictures of Marilyn Monroe around the walls, he was a fan, and clients would tell him they came for the entertainment as well as the haircut. Tony had a great sense of humour and kept his family, friends and clients laughing over the years with his stories.
Tony met Shelagh in 1967, and immediately knew they had found their soul mate in each other. They married in 1969 before moving to Canada in 1970. Tony promised Shelagh that it would only be for one year, but Canada became their forever home. They enjoyed 53 years of a wonderful marriage. Their first child, Sean, came along in 1973 with Sarah following closely in 1974. Tony is survived by his devoted wife Shelagh, his beloved children, Sean (Miranda), Sarah (Rob) and his pride and joy grandchildren, Andrea, Amanda (Luke), Matthew, Kyle and Hannah.
Tony was a wonderful husband, Dad and Grandad and his passing has left a huge hole in all of our lives. Tony will be missed and loved forever.
As per Tony’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Society.

POELMAN, Klaas POELMAN “As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children.” Psalm 103:15-17 It is with sadness, but not without hope, that we announce that KLAAS POELMAN was called home to his Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at the age of 95 years.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Annie; infant son, George; great-granddaughter, Miriam; sister Hilda Vos and brother Bill Poelman.
Klaas was born in Granum on May 2, 1927, the second of six children born to George and Mendine Poelman. He married Annie Poelman on November 18, 1947. Together they farmed and raised their family east of Granum, before moving to Lethbridge in 2002. He lived his faith in all that he did and was an active member of his church. He loved his life as a farmer and for himself couldn’t see any other way to make a living. He loved earth’s renewal at spring and walking fields of grain until harvest. Klaas and Annie regularly went for drives in the country, often not knowing where they would end up, but were a joy to both. He loved telling stories, especially of his younger years, which were a delight to his grandchildren. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly a blessing to him, and he loved playing games and spending time with them. He will be greatly missed.
The family sends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses, doctors and caregivers at the Chinook Regional Hospital and Edith Cavell Care Centre that warmly and patiently cared for him during these last few difficult months.
