JEAN LAPOINTE
1946 ~ 2013
Another good one is gone. Jean Lapointe, beloved wife of the late Dave Lapointe, passed away peacefully with family at her side on October 8, 2013 at the age of 67 years. She leaves 3 children and 8 grandchildren to celebrate her life and carry on her legacy. Her son Guy, his wife Dawn and their boys, Daniel, Tanner, and Nate. Her son Aaron, his wife Maggie and their kids, Doug, Shaun, and Ally. Her daughter Monique and her kids Kelsey and Beau. She is also survived by her sister Mary-Lynn Muhly and her brother Ken Perdue. She was pre-deceased by her husband Dave and her parents Addie and Charlie Perdue. Mom was born on July 8, 1946 in Edmonton, Alberta. She was raised in Lethbridge where she completed her grade schooling. In 1966 she met the love of her life, Dave. They were married on October 8, 1966, yes you read that right, their 47th wedding anniversary and now they are together again. For the first 6 years of marriage Mom and Dad lived in various communities around Alberta; Hinton, Fort Macleod and Barrhill, just to name a few. To this day there are still lasting friendships from their adventures. They settled in Coaldale in 1973 were Mom resided until July of this year. While raising 3 busy kids, mom was always involved in the community. She was actively involved in community sports which propelled her to seek a term in town politics as a councilor in the late 70’s. In 1982 mom was hired by the town as the recreation coordinator. This was a job that was made for her. Giving to the community, promoting activities and making people get involved. Coaldale thrived in the 80’s up to the mid 90¹s with so many events such as the Southern Alberta summer games (hosted twice) and numerous Winter games and carnivals. As well, mom was involved in the planning and hosting of Coaldale Settlers Days for many years. We could honestly write a book on all the things mom did for recreation in the community, area and Province. It was her passion to give everything she had to everyone without any reservation. You can be guaranteed that many people around our Province will remember her fondly. In the years since dad’s passing, mom¹s focus was on her grand kids. She loved to share stories about them with anyone who would listen. Even complete strangers! That was mom, warm and loving, friendly to all. You fought a brave battle for the last 8 years mom. We can only aspire to be as strong as you in our own lives. Rest now, your heart is whole again, back in dad¹s loving arms. Funeral arrangements to be announced when prepared. A Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, October 14, 2013 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the COALDALE COMMUNITY CENTRE, 1217 20th Avenue, Coaldale; there will be a supper to follow. Jim grew up during the Depression on his parent¹s farm near Talbot, AB. Upon his return to Lethbridge in 1970, he continued teaching in the Faculty of Education at University of Lethbridge. He retired from the University in 1986. Jim was an avid outdoorsman. He combined his love of hiking and hunting to provide freezer full of wild game for his family. He loved horses at every stage of his life from riding a horse to school to riding his Arab horse into his late 70s.
Jim built a cabin on St. Mary¹s Lake in Montana and the family has many wonderful memories of summers spent water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and riding, as well as making life long friends with other families there.
Jim made sure his teenaged family had season passes to Westcastle or Fernie and his passion for skiing lives on in his kids and grandkids. Jim¹s green thumb produced a bountiful harvest including the best tomatoes and cucumbers ever. In 1976, Jim purchased a small farm near Raymond and spent happy hours fussing over his hay crops and restoring old John Deere tractors. Jim had an amazing mechanical ability and could fix anything he put his mind to, even fabricating new parts. After retiring, Jim and Marina travelled throughout the US and to many exciting foreign destinations. In 2005, he married Margaret Lewis and in 2008 they purchased a farm near Theodore, Saskatchewan and moved there. He could talk about anything to anybody.
