LETHBRIDGE HERALD

The Lethbridge Community Band Society is staging its final concert for the 2022-2023 season entitled ‘A Father’s Day Finale in the Key of F’ today.

There will be a community reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the musical program following at  7 p.m.  at the College Drive Community Church, 2710 College Drive S.

The LCBS is also hosting a fundraising auction, available online. The bidding concludes in-person at the reception, and items will be available to pick up that evening.

The funds raised will go towards the operating costs of the 2023-2024 concert season; this includes performance venue and rehearsal space rentals, instrument and music purchases (and maintenance), and conductors and guest performers.

The LCBS mission statement is: “The Lethbridge Community Band Society is committed to the prospect of enriching the quality of life in the City of Lethbridge and surrounding area by promoting the study and performance of instrumental music, with special emphasis on literature of the concert band and various forms of ensemble music commonly written for woodwind, brasswind and percussion instruments.”

The Lethbridge Community Band was formed in 1 987 to fill a void in the Lethbridge music scene, namely to provide a learning and performance outlet for brass, woodwind, and percussion players of all ages. 2022-23 marks its 35th anniversary of offering music to Southern Alberta. The LCBS offer adults a chance to continue to play, youth an opportunity to learn, and the public an opportunity to enjoy concert band music in a way that no other organization in the area does.

There are three bands in LCBS – Silver, Gold and the Brass Band. Since its inception the Society has grown to become a valued cultural asset of Southern Alberta, having offered performances to hundreds of concert patrons, schools and students.
