The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced Thursday that 2005-born defenceman Noah Chadwick was selected in the 2023 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Chadwick, 18, was taken in the sixth-round (185th overall) by the Maple Leafs. The Saskatoon, Sask., product was originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second-round (38th overall) in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft. The 6’3, 190-pound defenceman registered 20 points (5g-15a) along with 16 penalty minutes and plus-9 rating in his first full season in the WHL in 2022-2023.
“It’s definitely an exciting moment for me and my family to be drafted. It’s a privilege and a great opportunity for me going forward, but with that being said, the real work begins now,” said Chadwick. “It’s pretty cool to be picked by the Maple Leafs with their great history there and with so many great players going through the organization, I couldn’t be happier.”
“I’m really excited to get to Toronto for their rookie camps and to be able to check out the city and the rink. I’m really looking forward to the development camp and learning lots while I’m there,” added Chadwick.
The left-shot rearguard has appeared in 80 career regular season games with the Hurricanes amassing 23 points (7g- 16a) along with 20 penalty minutes and a plus-6 rating. Chadwick has also recorded one assist in eight career post- season games.

Chadwick becomes the first Hurricanes to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft since Alex Cotton in 2020. He is the third ‘Cane ever to be selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs joining Andrew Nielsen (2015) and David Brumby (1993) while becoming the 81st player in team history to be selected in the NHL Draft.

Lethbridge-born Matthew Wood was taken 15th overall by the Nashville Predators.
It was in 25 games with UCONN this past season, Wood had eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points.
Emmitt Finnie was then taken in the seventh round by the Detroit Red Wings at 201st overall.
Finnie amassed 35 points in 64 games with the Kamloops Blazers this past season and added seven points in 14 playoff games.
