Scheidegger joins Horns curling

Pronghorn Athletics is very proud to announce multiple Grand Slam winner Casey Scheidegger as the next head coach for the Pronghorn men’s & women’s curling programs. Scheidegger will lead the 2023/2024 return to Canada West & U SPORTS competition after a brief hiatus following the 2021/2022 season.

Scheidegger  brings a wealth of experience, expertise, and an impressive track record in the world of curling. Her appointment is poised to bring a new level of excellence to the curling program.  “I am excited to take on the coaching role with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorn Curling Program.  This is a great opportunity to build up the curling community in Southern Alberta and I’m thrilled to be a part of it”, says Scheidegger .

Scheidegger is no stranger to the sport, having made a significant impact both nationally and internationally. Her curling career spans over two decades and is marked by numerous achievements, defining her as a true force to be reckoned with on the ice. Some highlights of Casey’s remarkable career include several Grand Slam Titles including the Canadian Open Championship, the Player’s Championship and the Tour Challenge.  She has also represented Alberta at multiple Scotties Tournament of Hearts.  Casey’s appointment as head coach brings not only a wealth of experience but also a passion for the sport and a desire to inspire and develop young curlers. Under her guidance, the Pronghorn curling program is poised for success, with a focus on teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship.

 “This is a very exciting addition for Pronghorn Athletics and the curling program. Anytime we can add someone of Casey’s character, coupled with her skills and experience, it really is a no-brainer. I’d like to thank both Casey and Shannon Kleibrink for their interest in revitalizing Pronghorn curling and look forward to the impact both have on our student athletes and curling in southern Alberta, “says Spencer Pommells, Manager of Athletics.   

 Scheidegger also takes over the program from long-time head coach Jeff Davidson, who’s years of volunteer service pushed the program to new heights, while also leaving a lasting impact on our student athletes.

 “On behalf of both Pronghorn Athletics and the University of Lethbridge, I’d like to thank Jeff for his years of leadership and guidance driving the curling program forward. These programs are reliant on the passion and selflessness of our head coaches, and Jeff Davidson is a shining example of this, “added Pommells.
