Bombers double up Bulls

In their first game at home after an seven-game road trip, the Lethbridge Bulls were doubled up 6-3 by the Brooks Bombers on Wednesday night at Spitz Stadium.

Brooks scored two runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings to preserve their 15th win of the season.

Lethbridge scored three runs on eight hits and Brooks scored six runs on nine hits.

Jeremiah Sanchez opened the scoring for Brooks in the first when he scored on a Demetrio Archuleta ground out.

Dax Wandler made the score 2-0 Brooks when he initially hit a triple and scored on an error by the Bulls second baseman.

The Bulls got a run back in the bottom of the first when a Nick Gravel single scored Josh Kabayama.

Fast forward to the fourth inning when a Braize Mitchell double scored Zander Bretza to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Mitchell would late score on a Harrison Griffith single to give the Bombers a 4-1 lead.

Ryan Kucy padded Brooks’ lead when he hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to increase the score to 6-1.

Gravel scored Lethbridge’s second run of the game in the seventh inning on a passed ball while Cardel Dick was at the plate.

Carter Claerhout scored Lethbridge’s last run of the game on a Demitri Shakotko ground out in the eighth inning.

Bulls started Aidan Newton pitched four innings while allowing four runs on six hits and striking out four batters in the loss.

Newton’s counterpart Evan Hoegler pitched 5 2/3 innings, while allowing one run on five hits and striking out four in the win.

Lethbridge (20-16) will host the Moose Jaw Miller Express for a mini two-game set beginning tonight at Spitz Stadium at 7 :05 p.m.

The Bulls ended the road trip with a 4-2 win on Saturday in Fort McMurray and a 4-3 on Sunday also in Fort McMurray before dropping the finale 2-1 in Sylvan Lake on Monday.
