Two Lethbridge Little League teams took home championships after last weekend to wrap up their seasons.

The Teenage Bisons baseball club were crowned Teenage Alberta/ Prairie Sectional Tier 1 champions in Medicine Hat.

The Teenage Bisons, who are comprised of 14 to 16 year olds, had to work for their banner in the final game, as they found themselves down 6-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning to the host Medicine Hat Mavericks.

Lethbridge battled back to take a 7-6 lead in the same inning before walking it off in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Medicine Hat 8-7.

“It was an amazing season,” said Jeff Crabb, Teenage Bisons head coach.

“(There were) lots of ups and downs all through the year. The boys persevered through adversity all year and came from behind. Like the final game, we came back from 6-1. We were down 6-1 going into the bottom of the sixth. So we just kept grinding it out, and working hard and yeah came through to win it in the end.”

Lethbridge ended up with a 4-1 record, including three round robin wins.

In two out of the three round robin wins, the Bisons’ wins were by a run.

“So just kind of battled through and (got) those close wins with great defence and you know really great offence,” said Crabb.

“Yeah I think practicing hard all year and working hard through the year paid off in the end for us.”

The Minor AAA team  of nine and 10 year old players were crowned champions on home field over the weekend.

“You know, we had a great bunch of kids this year,” said head coach Mitch Carpenter.

“They all came from day one ready to play and were eager to learn. (We) couldn’t have asked for a better group of kids. And they bought into the fundamentals, and playing as a team and when you play like a team, you win championships.”

The Minor AAA squad beat Calgary’s Fish Creek team 13-7 in the final.

“We both had very tough semi-final games to get to the championship game,” he said.

“And you know the boys put forward a good effort and that effort was good enough to take home the championship this year,” said Carpenter.
