The Lethbridge Hurricanes played their first home in 19 days on Wednesday night and came away with a 4-1 victory over the Calgary Hitmen.
This was the Canes first home game off a five-game road trip.
“Yeah, a bit of trap game right,” said Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters.
“Every time you come off the road from a long trip, it’s a tough one. So we’ll take the two points, we’ll move on and get ready for the weekend.”
Peters thought captain Joe Arntsen gave the team a boost with his spirited bout with Tyson Greenway in the second period.
“He’s been phenomenal here as a captain,” said Peters.
He’s done a great job. He was unreal on the bench. He knew we were a little quiet, a little flat and I thought he did a wonderful job there.”
The Canes Miguel Marques opened up scoring just 4:03 into the game when he redirected a puck in tight past Hitmen goalie Alex Garrett.
Noah Chadwick and Logan Wormald notched the assists on Marques’ 10th goal of the year.
Marques’ scored his 11th of the year and second of the night just 5:50 into the second period to give the Canes a 2-0 lead.
Wormald and Brayden Edwards assisted on the marker.
Elias Knoester gave the Hurricanes a three-goal lead with 15 seconds to go in the second period from Joe Arntsen and Kooper Gizowski.
Arntsen rifled a slap shot past Garrett to give the Canes a 4-0 lead at the 12:10 of the third period from Edwards and Wormald.
The Hitmen’s Oliver Tulk broke Harrison Meneghin’s shutout bid with goal on a penalty shot at 16:30 of third period.
Lethbridge went for 0-for 2 while Calgary went 0-for-4 on the powerplay.
Shots were 37-33 in favour of Calgary.
The Hurricanes (14-10-2) will host the Saskatoon Blades (17-8-1)in their annual Toque and Teddy Bear Toss game on Friday night.
