MALO, Betty MALO BETTY MALO (née Johnson) was born March 22, 1933 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan where she was the youngest of five children. Betty grew up on the family farm near Beadle and later moved into town, where she finished her schooling. Betty attended the Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1954. While in Calgary she met Patrick and they were married in 1956, raising two daughters, Jillayne and Susan.
Betty and Pat moved to Lethbridge in 1981 due to Pat’s ill health and she was his caregiver for the next 20 years until he passed away in 2002. She also worked at the Lethbridge Auxiliary Hospital for seven years, until her retirement in 1988. Betty loved tennis and was an active member of the Lethbridge Tennis Club for 20 years, where she met many special friends. Betty also enjoyed painting, gardening, playing cribbage and bridge and visiting with her many friends. Her sense of humour and fun will be greatly missed.
Due to her deteriorating health, Betty elected to have Medical Assistance in Dying and passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024. She is survived by her daughters, Jillayne Malo (Glenn Muir) and Susan Malo (Bryan Sakamoto) and her grandsons, Carson and Clark (Anika) Muir.

PYRCH, Ann Ann Pyrch 1932 – 2024 Anna Theresa Pyrch, beloved wife of the late Bill Pyrch, passed away in Lethbridge on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Pyrch; parents George and Mary Karl; sister and brother-in-law Marcella and Alex Zuk; brothers Ivan Karl, Jerome Karl, Gerald Karl and by her grandson, Terry Davy. Ann was born in Hanover, Ontario on April 27, 1932. She took her nurses training in Guelph, Ontario and started nursing in Toronto. She didn’t like the big city so on a holiday to Heisler, Alberta to visit relatives, she called the Camrose Hospital and got a job that week. Ann and Bill met in Camrose and were married in 1956. They moved around, living in Thorsby, Compeer and Strome before eventually settling in Taber. Ann was a nurse and evening emergency supervisor at the Taber Hospital for many years. She was active in making hundreds of t-shirts and knitted items for the hospital auxiliary. She also knitted and crocheted over four hundred afghans for the Blankets for Canada Society. In 2012, Ann and Bill won a citizen of the year award in Taber. They moved into Lethbridge in 2017 and after Bill’s passing in January 2019, Ann moved to the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale, where she resided until her passing. HINCH, Harry HARRY BRITTEN HINCH 1936 – 2024 Mr. Harry Britten Hinch of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Edith J. Hinch, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Harry, also known as Hap, was born into a family of four other children, Mary, Alice, Daniel and Edward, on their family farm in Nemiscam, Alberta. He went to school in Nemiscam and Foremost before remaining a dedicated farmer. Farming was his life and he farmed until 1993 when he sold his land to the Kurtzweg Brothers. In 1994 he moved to Lethbridge. They took many trips in Canada and the U.S. A, also going to London, England, South Africa and Malawi, but he was happiest when he was at the farm.
Besides the love of his life and soulmate Edith, Harry is survived by his sisters in law Jewel, April and Roberta
He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Beatrice Hinch; sisters Mary, Alice (Bill); brothers Dan (Vera) and Edward (Elfreida); and his best friend from childhood Dave Kurtzweg.
As per Harry’s request, he will be remembered privately by his family and friends.
An Interment will be held in the Foremost Cemetery at a later date.

MAGLIOCCO, Joan JOAN PAULA MAGLIOCCO 1954 – 2024 Joan Paula Magliocco (nee Glynn Carlos) of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Romano Magliocco, passed away peacefully after a short but valiant battle with cancer at St. Michael’s Health Centre on January 13, 2024, at the age of 69 years.
Joan was born in Galway, Ireland, and was raised by her mother Emily, grandmother Granny Glynn, and her uncle Ger Glynn. She attended Salerno Secondary School where she met some of the greatest friends in her life – many of whom she kept in contact with her whole life. Joan worked in the family business after school – Glynn’s. Joan met her future husband, Romano, when she was 14 years old. Both Joan and Romano grew up on the same street in Galway. They were later married in 1976. Together they had four children and in 1991 they made the difficult decision to leave Ireland and move to Canada for a brighter future.
Once in Canada, Joan’s very first job was at St. Michael’s Health Centre in housekeeping. Joan later opened her own business, which she owned and operated for over 20 years. Joan lived for her family; her entire world revolved around her children and grandchildren. Joan loved to read, meet her friends for coffee, walk around Henderson Lake, and volunteer with seniors. Joan loved the arts – she loved fashion and Chanel perfumes, going to the cinema, theatre productions, and music. Joan loved to travel to Ireland, Spain, Paris, New York, and Vancouver Island for holidays. Joan had a great Irish wit, and her sense of humour was passed down to her children.
Besides her loving husband of 47 years, Romano, Joan is survived by her daughter, Pierina (Gary) Lissa, her son, Riccardo (Joni) Magliocco, her daughter Gianna Magliocco, her son Paolo Magliocco, and her grandchildren Kaylee, Abbey, and Sadie Lissa, Gianlucca and Elianna Magliocco. Joan is also survived by her beloved sister, Mabel Carlos (niece Fiona and nephew Daniel), brother John Carlos, numerous family members, and close friends.
Joan was predeceased by her mother, Emily Glynn, her aunts Joan McCaffrey and Lolo Glynn, her uncles Gerald and Gabriel Glynn, her father and mother-in-law Lily and Joe Magliocco, sister-in-law Lucia Fitzgerald, and brothers in-law Joe Dunne and Remo Magliocco, and her close friend Elneth Blasco.
Vigil Rites (Prayers) will be held at 6:00 pm, on Friday, January 19, 2024, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH, 2405, 12 AVENUE SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta, with Father Tim Boyle, celebrant.

SPENCER, Joe SPENCER Joe Lynn Spencer died January 15, 2024 at his home in Coaldale, Alberta. He was born October 9, 1948. He is predeceased by a daughter, Lydia Anne Fredin (Matt), and survived by his wife, Jerris, two sisters, six children, and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, COALDALE CHAPEL (2216 21a Ave, Coaldale).

HAZUDA, Irene HAZUDA IRENE HAZUDA, beloved wife of the late Mike Hazuda, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on her cherished farm on January 11, 2024 at 99 years of age.
Irene was born in Lethbridge on July 10, 1924 and raised on the family farm in the Readymade district. She attended public school and worked the family farm, often hoeing sugar beets for her older brothers until marrying Michal Hazuda on November 21, 1946.
Having her own farm was Irene’s dream. In search of that dream, Irene and Mike worked as farm laborers, those darn sugar beets, until purchasing their first farm east of Coaldale in 1951. For the first time she hoed sugar beets for herself. However, this was not enough work for Irene and farm land was increased until her present farm in the Sunnyside district. On this farm, she never planted sugar beets.
After seven years of sugar beets, the focus became family and two girls were born, Karen Mary in 1953 and Connie Jane arrived in 1956. In 1961, the family moved to Lethbridge where Irene worked for the Green Acres Foundation until she retired in 1989.
Following retirement, Irene now had time to work on her farm and finish farm projects. She was an active member and elder in the Southminster United Church for many years. Irene volunteered for the Lethbridge Soup Kitchen and joined the Lethbridge Senior Center, where she especially loved the members of the walking club. In 2021, Irene moved back onto the farm, with family, where she resided until her passing.
Having survived many of life’s trials and tribulations, Irene was almost unstoppable and a force to be reckoned with until the very end. Surviving cancer was particularly significant to Irene which led her to participate in several cancer charities over the years, for example the Relay For Life.
The stars in Irene’s sky were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She frequently enjoyed working with them in the garden or yard, or spending quiet time cuddled with on the couch with a game or book.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters Karen (Ray) Brownlee and Connie (Hal Gallup) Schulz. Four grandchildren: Tom (Inna) Schulz (Vancouver), Brenton Schulz, Robyn Brownlee (Jordan Brown), Logan Brownlee. Four great grandchildren: Zaidan Schulz, Peyton Brownlee, Isabella Mirkovich, and Parker Brown.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Michal Hazuda (married 51 years), all of her siblings and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, one son-in-law (Martin Schulz), some nieces and nephews, and many friends and colleagues.
Viewing will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825-Mayor Magrath Drive, South, Lethbridge, on Sunday, January 21st, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A short prayer service will be held at 6:30 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1104-4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, on Monday, January 22nd, at 10:30 A.M., with Reverend Carol Many Chief officiating.
Irene will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery.
