Sean Tschigerl was a acquired by the Lethbridge Hurricanes from the Calgary Hitmen two days prior to the trade deadline earlier this month and is embracing the opportunity for change with his new club.

While he got one home game under his belt after the trade, he then headed out on the four-game road trip with his new  team and a time where it help him get comfortable with his new teammates.

“Well you’re on the bus so much with the guys, you’re in the hotel rooms, that’s fun,” said Tschigerl.

“You get to see those guys outside the rink a lot more and that’s (a) big part of being a team and having fun.”

Tschigerl said it’s change and any change is going to be good.

“This is an older team and a little more experience and we want to play deep in the playoffs and have some fun. And at the end of the day, as a 20-year-old, that’s all you want,” he said.

Tschigerl considers himself a 200-foot player that is competitive, can score some goals and work hard.

“I like to play with energy …, win battles and just be a guy who can play all areas of the game,”

 he said.

He was an assistant captain with the Hitmen for a few seasons and wants to bring his experience.

“I have over 250 games played now,” he said.

“So obviously help out young guys get into the league and honestly just be there (as) a role model for anybody else on the team.”

He said there’s a lot of potential.

“We have a more mature team, some older players ,and a good older core and that’s a big part of being successful and there’s guys who want to learn,” he said.

“They want to get better and like I said, it’s called being a gamer, and there’s guys who are gamers here and I like that. And obviously that’s good for any team for long stretches.”

“It gives us more depth offensively and makes us a harder team to play against,” said Bill Peters, Hurricanes head coach.

Tschigerl has 46 points (21 goals, 25 assists) in 41 games split between Calgary and Lethbridge.
