On a night where former Canes captain and three-time Stanley Cup Champion  with the Chicago Blackhawks,Brent Seabrook, was inducted into the Wall of Honour, the current Lethbridge Hurricanes put on a show  for him in a 6-1 win over the Regina Pats on Friday night at the Enmax Centre.

“Yeah, I thought it had a lot of influence,” said Matt Anholt, Canes assistant coach, to Dustin Forbes of 106.7 Rock on the Seabrook factor.

“Our first was excellent. We were buzzing, lots of really good plays with puck. I mean our five-on-five play in the first was as good as you can be I think and especially since Christmas, that first period was excellent. I think the shots reflected it.”

The Hurricanes struck first when Leo Braillard ripped a shot past Pats goalie Kelton Pyne for his ninth goal of the season at 4:58 of the first period from Logan McCutcheon and Trae Wilke.

The Canes made it 2-0 just over a minute into the second period when Brayden Edwards scored his 19th goal of the season from Tristen Doyle and Dylan Sydor.

Regina cut the Canes lead in half 27 seconds later when Sam Oremba found the back of the net for his 11th goal of the campaign from Tanner Howe and Ty Gibson.

Lethbridge restored their two goal lead when Miguel Marques tipped home his 20th goal of the season from Sean Tschigerl and Braillard at the 9:30 mark of the middle frame.

Tschigerl then scored on the powerplay 3:52 into the third on the powerplay to give the Canes a 4-1 lead.

McCutcheon and Kooper Gizowski assisted on the marker.

Tschigerl scored his second of the night 11:41 into the third period to make the score 5-1 for the Canes.

Wilke got the assist.

Noah Chadwick made it 6-1 at 16:13 of the third period from Gizowski.

“I think the amount of powerplays and the PKs (penalty kills) that we were kind of getting in the second hurt our rhythm a little bit,” said Anholt.

“Lots of guys didn’t get as much ice time as they should have and both of the special teams didn’t really go our way in the second. So I think that also hurt us a little bit. But we turned it on and had a great third.”

The Canes went 1-for-4 while the Pats went 1-for-2 on the powerplay.

Finals shots were 40-20 for the Canes.

The Hurricanes (22-19-3-0) are seventh place in the Eastern Conference and welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings to the Enmax Centre for the first time this season on Tuesday night.
