Strong effort needed on both sides of the court from Kodiaks

The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball  team are well aware of the task at hand when they open the ACAC championship against the SAIT Trojans tonight.

The Kodiaks will begin the tournament on the road at SAIT, with tip off set for 6 p.m. at the University of Calgary.

“SAIT rebounds the ball extremely well, especially on the offensive glass,” said Ryan Heggie, Kodiaks head coach.

“In saying that, every player will need (to) box out and “crash the boards,” (and) limiting second chance points will be key.”

Ball sharing and making that extra pass will be key to the Kodiaks success.

“SAIT is a good defensive team, so we will need everyone on offence to be a threat,” said Heggie.

Heggie said the guys have been preparing well.

“Just trying to tweak some things and get better each day still.  The boys are excited for the challenge ahead,” said Heggie.

Heggie has found his team to be a resilient bunch heading into the championship.

“ We’ve had some high moments and some extremely tough moments… ,however, we usually found a way to bounce back,” said Heggie.

“I like the way we have been starting games. The guys are showing up and starting on time.”

The Kodiaks know they will have to work as a unit.

“We have a team that can win games; however, we are (a) team that needs each other. So we need to remember that when things (and) moments get tough,” said Heggie.

The winner will advance to the final four next weekend and the loser goes home. 

Lethbridge finished third in the South Division with a 14-7 record and SAIT finished ahead of them with a 17-4 record.
