The Brandon Wheat Kings came into the Enmax Centre and blanked the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-0 on Friday night.

“Tonight we squeezed the sticks a little bit offensively and then gave up a couple early,” Bill Peters, Hurricanes head coach.

“Not really even early but in the first and got behind the eight ball and couldn’t dig out.”

There were several issues in the game that Peter pointed out.

“Obviously, you know what, there’s some plays we want  back,” said Peters.

“I didn’t think we managed the puck as well as we have here recently. I thought we handed our problems off a little bit instead of making a strong play. So we got to get back to being a little more direct. I thought we were cute at times in the offensive zone and overpassed the puck.”

Forward Dylan Sydor thought the team lacked intensity.

“We didn’t really come out with too much intensity,” said Sydor.

“We kind of took our foot off the gas.”

Sydor was encouraged by the last 40 minutes.

“(In) that last 40 minutes, the guys worked real hard,” said Sydor.

“I think we build off that, we learn from that, you know,  it’s all (a) learning curve.”

Matteo Michels walked and beat Canes goalie Harrison Meneghin short side to give the Wheat Kings a 1-0 13:41 into the first period.

Carter Klippenstein and Quinn Mantei assisted on the goal.

Brandon made the score 2-0 when Joby Baumuller one-timed in his fourth of the year from Luke Shipley and Rylen Roersma.

Brandon added to their lead early in the second period when Jayden Wiens whacked in his 22nd of the season from Nicholas Johnson and Brett Hyland just 41 seconds in.

Hyland scored his 31st goal of the season just 58 seconds into the third from Wiens to give the Wheat Kings a 4-0 lead.

The Hurricanes hit the road to play the Moose Jaw Warriors tonight at 6 p.m.
