HEWITT, Joyce HEWITT JOYCE EVELYN HEWITT, of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Therese Villa on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the age of 91 years.
Born in 1932 in High River, AB, to Fredrick and Katherine (Teare) Rockafellow. Fate brought Joyce her beloved husband, Arthur “Art” George Hewitt, during her nursing service at St. Michael’s Hospital, where she cared for him during his recovery from an accident. In 1954, Joyce and Art exchanged vows in Blackie, AB, marking the beginning of a cherished partnership.
Following their union, the couple settled in Lethbridge, AB, where Art dedicated himself to work at the Lethbridge Agricultural Research Station. Together, Joyce and Art embraced the joys and challenges of raising six children.
Joyce’s dedication to serving her community and nurturing her faith was evident through her involvement in a number of churches and missions in Lethbridge and surrounding area. She actively contributed to the spiritual enrichment of others through her participation in St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Women’s Aglow, New Hope Christian Centre, The Miracle Channel, ROC Christian Ministries, and Joyful House of Prayer. Her commitment extended beyond the confines of the church walls as she devoted her time and energy to volunteering at the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, St. John’s Ambulance, and the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. Joyce’s profound faith led her on two meaningful journeys to Israel, enriching her spiritual connection and deepening her understanding of her beliefs. Additionally, her compassionate spirit extended to sponsoring numerous children from underprivileged countries over many years, embodying her commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.
In Joyce’s later years, Jean F. was a faithful friend and care-giver for Joyce following her beloved husband’s passing in 2016.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her children Glen (Xingyu) Hewitt, Roy (Ruth) Hewitt, Jane (Jerry) Friesen, Larry (Sandy) Hewitt, Mary (Troy) Hewitt, and Judy (Mark) Ross. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
