HUNT, Gina HUNT Gina Michelle Hunt passed away on March 14, 2024 in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 30 years.
A Wake service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 5:00 – 10:00 pm. The Funeral Service will also be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall on Thursday, March 21 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

SHOUTING, Wilbert SHOUTING Wilbert Larry Shouting passed away on February 14, 2024 in Surrey, B.C. at the age of 64 years.

FRIESEN, Elizabeth “Betty” ELIZABETH “BETTY” FRIESEN 1928 – 2024 Friesen, Elizabeth “Betty”, beloved wife of the late John Friesen passed away peacefully Tuesday February 27, 2024, with family at her side. She was 95 years old. Betty was born in Blumenhof, Saskatchewan and grew up in Saskatchewan, before her family moved to Alberta, where she met her husband, John. John and Betty were married, December 28, 194 7 and they spent 65 years together until his passing in 2012.
Mom’s passion was for family, cooking, and every combination of the two. Mom worked in the food industry for the majority of her working career, starting in Swift Current with KFC and once we moved to Lethbridge, she spent 17 years at St. Mikes Hospital preparing home cooked meals for the patients, the Nuns that ran the hospital and the doctors. Once she retired, she loved to volunteer at the MCC store, the ladies Auxiliary at Extendicare and quilting blankets for the homeless.
Mom is survived by her children, Richard (Marilyn) Friesen, Harvey (Donna) Friesen, David (Rose Ann) Friesen, Rhonda (Gerry) Roth. She has left to cherish her memory her 4 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren. Christoper (Addie) Friesen, Camron and Carter, Ryan (Isabel) Friesen, Amy (Rob) Burton, Aubree and Gracelyn, Jessica (Nathan) Barendregt, Beckett.
The family would like to thank the care staff at St. Therese for all that you do. A special thank you to Marwha for always singing with mom during difficult times, and Heather for your bright smile and energy.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at COALDALE MENNONITE CHURCH, 2316 17 STREET, Coaldale, Alberta, with Lil Thompson officiating.
A private family interment will be held prior in Coaldale Cemetery.

ZHONG, Ji Tian
JI TIAN ZHONG 1931 – 2024 Ji Tian Zhong of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Qiu Yue Li, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on March 12, 2024 at the age of 92 years.
Ji Tian Zhong was born on April 23, 1931 in Taishan county, Guangdong province, China. He had two younger siblings – Qintong Zhong (brother) and Tianlun Chan (sister). Ji Tian was a rice farmer in China. He married Qiu Yue Li on February 16, 1949. They had five children together (three daughters and two sons). He helped with cooking for several village celebrations – many praised his culinary skills. And he liked to help other community members that were in need.
Ji Tian with his wife immigrated to Canada in 1992 to be with his family. In Canada, he helped raise and take care of nine grandchildren. He also briefly worked at a Chinese restaurant.
Ji Tian enjoyed tending to gardens and going on leisurely walks. Within the family he was known for making his famous dried Chinese cabbages – where he grew the Chinese cabbages himself. His dried Chinese cabbages allowed his family members to enjoy authentic Chinese soups. Many family members have memories of how he enjoyed his morning tea – his favourite tea was Puli tea. Several grandchildren remember his humour as he loved to prank and joke with them. Even in his later years Ji Tian remained highly independent and mobile.
Ji Tian Zhong is survived by his three daughters, Yan Yun Zhong, Tracy Cheng, and Susan Luc; two sons, Jian Jing and Jun Xi Zhong; thirteen grandchildren, Wei Zi, Xiao Yi, and Can Ming Li; Ai Feng Zhong; Maggie, Alan, and Mandy Zhong; Andrew, Peter, Jason, and Michelle Cheng; Jenny and Alice Luc; seven great grandchildren, Sheng Hua, Cui Hua, and Jia Hua Li; Hai Lin, Ya Lin, and Hai Wei Chen; Julie Zhong; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Ji Tian Zhong is predeceased by his parents, Kui Qing Zhong and Xian Cai Zhang; and grandchild, Huan Zhi Zhong.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024, at Martin Brothers Funeral Chapels, 610 4 Street South, Lethbridge.

KEMPE, Daniel “Dan” DANIEL “DAN” KEMPE 1979 – 2024 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel “Dan” Kempe, on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the age of 44 years.
Dan grew up in Grassy Lake, graduating from Chamberlain School in 1997. Spending the majority of his life in Lethbridge, he built his own home and enjoyed the short drive to Waterton, often accompanied by his dog Avy. He was always happy to spend time with family and friends over coffee or a meal.
Professionally he was a mechanic in multiple shops, earning his journeyman certificate in both automotive and heavy-duty mechanics. Notably working over 10yrs at Volker Stevin, and most recently at Western Tractor. He enjoyed many things including travel, nature hikes, water-skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding as well as painting (vehicles + canvas).
He is survived by his parents Henry and Pearl Kempe; siblings Josh (Ranae) Kempe, Sarita (Calvin) Tams, and Gina Kempe (Sean Brayton); nephew Jeremy Kempe; nieces Bethany Kempe, Zoë Tams; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Douglas Robert Dueck, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away in Lethbridge on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the age of 72 years.
A private burial service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Cemetery on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

He was predeceased by his wife Erna and parents Peter and Mary (née Voth) Dueck.
Doug was born and raised in Coaldale, where he grew up on the family farm surrounded by his parents, brother and two sisters. He graduated from Kate Andrews High School in 1969. Following this, he went to Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn, Saskatchewan. There he met the love of his life, Erna Friesen. When they were both just nineteen years of age, they married in Vauxhall on November 7, 1970. Thus began fifty wonderful years together. Erna and Doug had three children, farming as a family in numerous locations, both in southern and northern Alberta, including a small stint in Saskatchewan. Erna passed away on May 5, 2021. On November 27, 2021, Doug remarried in Lethbridge to Wendy Booker.

YACKULIC, Thomas “Tom” YACKULIC It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of THOMAS “TOM” YACKULIC, on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the age of 37 years, after a battle with a known heart condition.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Naverina “Rina” Yackulic, of Bassano, Alberta; his sister, Nicole Yackulic, of Calgary, Alberta; and his parents, Evelyn and Colin Yackulic, of Lethbridge, Alberta. He also leaves behind his dear friend, Logan Graham and Logan’s daughter, Mercedes.
Thomas grew up in Lethbridge and was grateful for his career as a welder at Charlton Hill. He was an ardent NFL football enthusiast, with the Philadelphia Eagles as his favorite team. Thomas had a very kind heart and cherished animals of all kinds.
A memorial service will be held by Tom’s family at a later date. Details will be announced once completed.

MATHESON, Samuel SAMUEL MATHESON 1969 – 2024 It is with great sorrow and a heavy heart that the Matheson family announce the passing of Samuel Drummond Matheson. Sam passed peacefully in Castries, Saint Lucia on February 29th, 2024. His beloved sister, Megan Diana Matheson, and his fiancée, Minole Jasani were by his side.
Sam was born on December 9, 1969, in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was the first-born child of Samuel Osgoode Matheson and Margaret Marie Matheson (nee Drummond), as well as the older brother of Megan.
Sam enjoyed a happy childhood. After completing high school, Sam opted to remain in his hometown in order to obtain his undergraduate degree at The University of Lethbridge. He then chose to further his education and pursued a Master’s Degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Upon completion of his education, Sam took a position with Global Affairs Canada in Ottawa, Ontario, where he remained until his passing.
Music was Sam’s greatest passion. Whether it was playing guitar, listening to a wide variety of genres (especially Heavy Metal), watching rockumentaries, or even reading about the subject, music always brought joy to his heart. He also found great pleasure in all kinds of movies, old and new.
Those who were fortunate enough to know this great soul, knew what a wonderful human being he was. Despite his humility, Sam was kind, generous, sweet, funny, intelligent, and always at the ready to entertain those close to him in ways only Sam could.
Sam will always be remembered with love.
