Frank Angyal
1933 – 2024

Frank Angyal Sr., beloved husband of Julia Angyal of 67 years passed away peacefully in Bow Island on Sunday, June 9, 2024 at the age of 90 years.
The Funeral Service will be held at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 – 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. with Life Celebrant Shelly Bassett officiating. Besides Julia, his loving wife of sixty seven years, Frank will be fondly remembered by their four children, eleven grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren, Frank (Lori) Angyal Jr. of Taber and their family Clayton (Lisa) Angyal (his children Jayden and Chase), Adele (Trevor) Joly, Frank (Courtney) Angyal (their family Nash and Nellie) and Derek Angyal (his children Emery and Lennox); Julie (Russell) Bowman of Taber and their family Daina (Colt) Lazzarotto (their children Raegan and Abby) and Kevin (Destiny) Bowman (their children Brooklynn and Myla); Ethel (Doug) Russell of Lethbridge and their family David (Melissa) Russell (their children Emily and Gavin) and Michael (Stacey) Russell (their children Lucas and Mia; Kathy Boersma of Boersma and her family Clarrissa (Mark) Brown (their children Mackenzie and Zoey), Brandi (Dan) Langert (their children Parker and Liam) and Andy (Jolene) Boersma (their children Morgan, Shae and Isabella).
He was predeceased by his parents Steve and Ethel Angyal; sisters Diane Pajer and Ethel Beny; brother Steve Angyal; brother in-law Gyula Pajer; son in-law Ralph Boersma and great grandson Aiden Russell.
Frank was born September 9,1933 in Tiszabercel, Hungary. He married Julia Novak and immigrating to Canada in 1956. Frank worked hard to take care of his family. Labouring on farms until his employment with Cornwall Canning, eventually working at Rogers Sugar where he retired at the age of sixty two.
Through the years, Frank had an interest in beekeeping which he enjoyed for many years later purchasing a farm and working side by side with his wife Julia and family until his passing.
Frank’s life was not all work. He enjoyed tending to his garden and planting flowers all around the farm. Frank enjoyed traveling with friends to Las Vegas, places in California, down east to Montreal and Windsor to visit family and back to his home in Hungary.
The most important think in his life was family. Frank took great pleasure when family came to visit, talking about the things that were going on in their lives. His face would light up when his great grandchildren came running to give him a hug and kiss. Grampa will be deeply missed.

SHARON ANN PIERCE

1957 – 2024

     Mrs. Sharon Pierce of Lethbridge passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, June 7th, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on May 11, 1957, in Brooks, Alberta, Sharon’s life was marked by adventure, dedication, and profound connections.

     A few years after high school, Sharon embarked on a journey that would shape her existence living in Spain for 6 months. Her youthful vigor led her to traverse landscapes both familiar and foreign, instilling in her a deep appreciation for the diversity and beauty of the world around her. During her formative years, Sharon embraced the value of hard work, finding employment at both a local café and an autobody shop. These experiences not only honed her skills but also instilled in her a sense of resilience and determination that would serve her well throughout her life.

     It was in Brooks where Sharon’s path intertwined with that of Robert Pierce where they eventually exchanged vows in 1983, laying the foundation for a life filled with joy and laughter. Together, they welcomed two children, Taylor and Kendra, into their lives, nurturing them with affection and support.

     Later, Sharon settled in Lethbridge where she embraced a career in industrial parts sales. In the early 2000s, Sharon’s journey took an unexpected turn as she found a second chance at love with Bob Dobni. Together, they embarked on a new chapter filled with adventure, laughter, and shared passions. Over the course of 11 beautiful years, Sharon and Bob reveled in the simple pleasures of life, cultivating their love amidst the tranquil landscapes of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Their shared love for the outdoors, gardening, sewing, cooking, and golfing served as the foundation for a special bond.

     Sharon leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, cherished memories, and countless lives touched by her loving warmth. She will be deeply missed by her loving children, Taylor and Kendra, and a multitude of family members, friends, and colleagues whose lives were forever enriched by her presence.

    Sharon is survived by her children Taylor (Leah) Pierce, Kendra (Philip Smith) Pierce; brother Rick (Lucie) Shannon; grandsons Vincent and Robert Pierce as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sharon is predeceased by her parents Jack and Maida Shannon and her brother Jim (Pat) Shannon.

     In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of Sharon’s enduring legacy of compassion and kindness.

     A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at a later date where friends and loved ones will gather to honor her memory and bid her a fond farewell.

TOURGELIS, Elias (Louis)

January 17, 1938 – June 3, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our father, grandfather (Pappou), and great-grandfather, Elias “Louis” Tourgelis, on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 86 in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Louis was born on January 17, 1938, in Paradisi, Korinthias, to Nikolas and Vasiliki Tourgelis, the youngest of seven children. In 1961, at the age of 23, he decided to join his sister, Kassiani, embarking on a new life in Calgary, Alberta.
Two and a half years later, he brought his fiancée Katina to Canada, and they were married in 1964. They had two daughters, Kiki and Dina. They stayed in Calgary until 1968 and then moved their young family to Lethbridge, Alberta, to open their first restaurant, Top Pizza & Spaghetti House.
Over the years, he brought many family members over from Greece and helped them start new lives in Canada. His generosity to his family, friends and to helping his beloved village in restoring the churches will never be forgotten.
He loved being around his friends, his “Parea” His happy place was Duck Lake, Montana. Many weekends, he would bring his friends for fishing trips there, and every fall, they would gather in Lethbridge to go pheasant hunting. He also loved supporting the St. Demetrios Greek Community in Calgary.
Louis is survived by his daughters, Kiki (Anastassios) Alepoudeas and Dina (Joseph) Bahhadi; grandchildren Haralabos (Petia), Stavroula, Joseph, and Elea; and a great-grandson, Anastassios. He is predeceased by his parents, siblings, and his loving wife, Katina (Kathy), of 52 years.
We would like to give our deepest thanks to Diza Jaranillo for taking great care of our father over the past five years. and our heartfelt thanks to our cousin, Angela D’Agnone, for being by his side when we couldn’t be.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers on Wednesday, June 12, at 7:00 pm at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 13, at 1:00 pm at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, (1 Tamarac Cres SW, Calgary, AB), with Father Thomas Sandberg officiating.
