Foam Fest attracts hundreds

They walked, they ran, climbed they splashed, they laughed. And participants in the first-ever Foam Fest five-kilometre family fun run in Lethbridge got covered in lots of foam on Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Park.

The obstacle course that featured water slides, climbing challenges, other obstacles and of course, lots of foam – about 2.5 million cubic feet of it – attracted 4,500 adults and kids on a hot, sunny day.

Make-A-Wish Canada was the official partner charity for the event, receiving all money raised through participant fundraising and its gear check on site.

The family fun had a total of 22 obstacles for participants to tackle on the course including the three tallest inflatable waterslides in the world.

Operations manager Steven Passero said 10 cities are on this year’s Canadian tour with Lethbridge being the fourth stop.

“It’s a nice turnout for our first year,” said Passero. Participants started at 8 a.m. with the last group hitting the course at 2:15.

Organizers are always looking for new venues and a location opened up this year, said Passero, and with Lethbridge residents long asking for an event here, they got their wish.

Red Deer, Airdrie, and Leduc have been Alberta venues on the tour and now Lethbridge has joined them.

Make-A-Wish has raised almost $5 million over the course of 10 years of Foam Fest, he said.
