In a playoff preview, the Okotoks Dawgs edged the Lethbridge Bulls 4-1 in the regular season finale at Spitz Stadium on Monday during Western Canadian Baseball League action.

“(I) felt like we started off kind of slow,” said Bulls outfielder Jake Lacey, who provided the Bulls only run with a home run.

“We kind of struggle against Okotoks, (it) feels like we strike out a lot.”

Bulls head coach Ryan Macdonald felt the regular season finale was about resting starting players and  saving pitchers all in effort to be prepared for the playoff opener in Okotoks on Wednesday.

Scoring in this contest didn’t get underway until the third inning when the Dawgs’ Leo Griffin scored from third base on a Bulls throwing error to first base.

The Bulls tied the game in the bottom of the third when Lacey hit a leadoff solo home run to left field.

Fast forward two innings when the Dawgs were able to tack on two more runs to make the score 3-1.

Dawson Santana hit a two-out single to cash in Logan Grant and Landon Kaufmann.

The Dawgs added to their lead in the eighth when a Grant single scored Greg Ross from second base to make the score 4-1 for Okotoks.

Lacey went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run and RBI for Lethbridge.

“I finally got it going, so that was nice,” said Lacey.

“It’s (been) a long year for me. So I’m finally happy that I got it going a little bit. It was nice being back in the lead-off spot.”

The Dawgs swept the home and home after beating Lethbridge 5-1 on Sunday.

Both teams will battle in the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs in the West Division semi-finals beginning Wednesday in Okotoks.

Game 2 will be played in Lethbridge on Thursday night and if necessary Game 3 goes Friday back in Okotoks.

The Bulls beat the Fort McMurray Giants 22-0 on Saturday.

Lethbridge finished with a 36-20 regular season record.
