The Southern Alberta Chaos wrapped up their round robin with a 16-10 defeat at the hands of the Prince Albert Predators at the MacDonald Cup Western Canadian Junior B Lacrosse Invitational on Friday in Brooks.
The Chaos scored the most amount of goals by any opponent against the Predators all tournament long.
“So you know our offence was doing what we (needed) them to do and they capitalized on more opportunities than we did today,” said Jared Capner, Chaos head coach.
Deegan Reutlinger had a seven-point game (four goals, three assists to lead the way for the Chaos, while Austin Sheen had four goals and Michael Dyck and Jett Matisho each had a goal in the loss.
“We learned that we’ve just got to make sure that our transition’s a little bit cleaner,” said Capner.
Chaos goalie Ryker Gamble faced 71 shots in the game.
“That indicates to us that we need to clean up a few things on the back end and clean up some defensive stuff,” said Capner.
Capner anticipates there won’t be a lot of altering going on ahead of the semi-finals.
“There’s a little bit of fine tuning that we want to clean up going into the semis, but all-in-all where we’re at and what we’ve been able to accomplish this week (has) been huge for these guys,” said Capner.
“They’re riding momentum right now and they’re in a pretty good spot.”
Capner has been impressed with the team’s play throughout the week.
“We felt that over the course of the four games we (have) played, we were starting to grow and we’re going in a really positive direction, “ said Capner.
The Chaos finished the round robin with a 2-2 record.
Southern Alberta will know their semi-final opponent once the round robin wraps up Saturday morning.
The semi-finals times are set for this afternoon at 4 and 7 p.m. today respectively, while the bronze medal game is at 11 a.m. and the gold medal game is at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
