With cooler temperatures quickly approaching, the last Downtown Farmers Market was held at Festival Square on Wednesday.

Many vendors such as Angela Calvin of Grammies Little Bakery are bittersweet about the season ending.

“It went by so fast but we had a blast. Even when we got rained out last week, it was still fun to see all the people and meet all the vendors and stuff. It was great,” said Calvin.

Callum Campbell says the Downtown Farmers Market brought the sixth street to life every week.

“Just looking around, you see lots of kids, lots of dogs and lots of families come by and that’s always nice,” said Campbell.

While the Downtown Farmers Market may have wrapped up, the vendors plan on keeping themselves busy during the fall.

Vendors such as Broxburn Farms and Bootsma Bakery will continue to be present at the Saturday Farmers Market held at the Agri-Food Hub and Trade Centre which will continue until Oct. 12.

Jamie Bootsma, owner of Bootsma Bakery, says they are planning on selling fall goodies for people to buy.

“We’re going to be featuring pumpkin spice loaves in store and pumpkin tarts as well. And then we’re going to have Thanksgiving boxes coming out kind of towards mid to late September,” said Bootsma.

Broxburn Farms will also continue to have their farm open for visitors to pick strawberries.

Festival Square will also continue to host various events during the fall, including Oktoberfest this weekend.

Starting next Thursday, the Downtown BRZ will also be hosting After Hours Night Markets at Festival Square from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. weekly until the end of September.

The Downtown BRZ plans on continuing the Downtown Farmers Market next year. It will be the 20th year for the Farmers Market.
