Samuel “Sam” David Golbeck 1984 – 2024. Sam passed away in Courtenay B.C., on Saturday May 11, 2024, at the age of 39 years.

He was the youngest of seven children, raised in the lower mainland of B.C., moving to Lethbridge, for most of his high school years, and returning to B.C., residing in Ymir and Nelson, before moving to Vancouver Island a few years ago. Sam loved wrestling, and spending time with his siblings’ children. He was a talented origami artist. He enjoyed the time he spent with his brother Daniel and sister, Naomi, playing Nintendo. Sam was a kind, compassionate and giving person. He was patient and attentive to the babies and small children in the family and with everyone. He had an innate compassion for other people and concern for their well-being. He loved being an uncle. He had this special relationship with his mum, and was always her baby. There was never a time that Sam wasn’t utmost in mum’s thoughts and he was very connected to her. Sam showed true friendship, and love for everyone whenever he could, despite his challenges. He struggled with mental health and addiction issues, along with physical and emotional trauma that impacted his life in many ways, but could still show a smile for those he came in contact with. We loved him so much and miss him deeply.

BAILIE, Carson

CARSON T. BAILIE 1944 – 2024 On August 29, 2024, Carson Theodore Bailie passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by his family and dear friends.
Carson is survived by his children, Greg (Tara) Bailie of Lethbridge and Lynette Bailie of Calgary; his six grandchildren, Ryland, Teagan, Taylor, Rowan Bailie, and Gabriel and Ian Bailie Farquharson; brother George (Isabella) Bailie of Lethbridge; sister Alice (Lloyd) Strain of Foremost, AB; and his brother-in-law Doug Williams of Radville, SK, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, Carson and Anna Bailie, and his beloved sisters Arlene Bailie and Gladys Williams.
Carson grew up on the family farm in Skiff, Alberta, and attended school in Bow Island and Foremost. His lifelong pursuit of farming, began at a young age working alongside his dad and mom from seeding to harvest. Durning the Winter months, he was as a Linesman for Ace Construction, installing the power poles throughout the Crowsnest Pass and Southern British Columbia. Carson took over the farm in the early 1980s following his father’s passing. He worked relentlessly on the family farm; keeping the tradition of mixed farming active, loving his cattle, while moving his grain cropping to the forefront of new farming practices, which included being one of the first farmers in Southern Alberta to introduce no-till seeding practices. In the 1990s, Carson shifted his farm operations to the County of Warner, where he enjoyed the challenges and rewards of the expansion and the peace and serenity of the new farm. He made numerous friends in the community, adding to the many lifelong friends he acquired along his travels to numerous grain elevators, hockey arenas, baseball fields, coffee shops, and taverns. A quick trip into town, for a part, or attending a Balog Auction was always a good day unless it was during harvest.
As a father, Carson made an effort to teach Greg and Lynette about the sports and activities he loved, while also introducing them to the grit and beauty of the farm. He was deeply grateful to their mother, Kay Bailie, for nurturing their family life in Lethbridge and blending it with the experiences of country life. Carson took great joy in his role as a grandfather. He loved taking Ryland to batting practices, watching Teagan and Taylor dance, Rowan play guitar, Gabriel play piano, and teaching Ian baseball; not to mention the cribbage games and his matching rhymes that will live in the hearts of his family forever. He marveled at each grandchild’s beautiful unique nature, and his love for his grandchildren was evident in the spectacular twinkle in his eye during the cherished moments they shared.
Carson faced his battle with cancer with the same determination and strength that defined his life. He was deeply humbled and incredibly grateful for the support from his medical team, friends, and family. Following his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held after Harvest to honor and remember a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kids Sport Canada, Lethbridge/Taber Chapter, in honour of Carson’s love of children and sports. https://kidsportcanada.ca/alberta/lethbridge-taber/
