Horn men’s soccer progressing well through season

The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s soccer team has taken steps forward in terms of improvements as the Canada West regular season winds down.

“Things have gone fairly well over the season,” said Vikram Virk, Horns head coach.

“We’ve been extremely competitive across all (of) our games in Canada West.”

Virk said you’re starting to see a confidence in the group.

“You’re starting to see more familiarity I guess within the new system and … new structure,” said Virk.

“So definitely growing in that element in terms of  our tactical understanding. So on the right track. We’ve just got to keep our heads down and continue to work.”

The Horns are working on finding ways to close out tighter matches.

“We do have a decent amount of ties, so looking at how we can turn those into obviously getting three points instead of one,” said Virk.

The Horns have six ties on their record so far this season and have learned from them.

“There’s different lessons from each game,” said Virk.

“There’s ties where we feel we could’ve done more to close out a game, there’s ties where we feel we could’ve managed (to) lead more. So there’s different elements in each one of those games I would say that each provides its own learning lesson opportunity for us to continue to grow.”

 U of L sits in the fourth and final playoff spot with a 2-3-6 record  in the Prairie Division and will look to lock that down in final three games.

“Every game’s been super important to us and every point we picked up along the way has helped us get in this conversation,” said Virk.

“So we take it one game at a time and give everything we can for each three points that we can collect.”

The Horns sit two points up on MacEwan going into this weekend.

U of L plays at University of Saskatchewan today before a two-week break and then will finish off the regular season at home against the University of Calgary on Oct. 18 and Mount Royal University on Oct. 20.
