With the snowfall early Tuesday morning, the Downtown Business Revitalization Zone got into the holiday spirit by setting up their 18-foot Christmas tree.

The BRZ will be hosting its third annual Christmas tree lighting on Thursday evening at 5 p.m.

Along with the tree lighting, there will be cookie decorating for the first 200 kids, free wagon rides as well as entertainment from the local LCI band and even a visit from Santa himself.

Sarah Amies, executive director of the Downtown BRZ, says it will be a fun event for the entire family to enjoy.

“It’s going to be an awesome evening, so I invite everybody to come on down and check us out Thursday night,” said Amies.

The winter chill is in the air, but Amies promises Festival Square will be warmed with not only the spirit of Christmas but also heaters and fireplaces.

Along with the festivities happening in Festival Square, many downtown businesses will be open until 8 p.m. for the annual moonlight madness event.

Amies says it is very important to support local, especially for the holidays, as it not only helps local business owners in the community, but it helps the economy as well.

“A significant percentage of our economy is made up of small and medium businesses, so if we don’t support them, we don’t support our economy on a local level,” said Amies.

Along with supporting the economy, Amies says people can find unique Christmas gifts for everyone on your list.

“You can find such cool, unique pieces in the downtown boutiques, our shops and even our coffee shops are selling some pretty awesome goods for Christmas,” said Amies.

Whether you are hoping to get in the holiday spirit, or checking off your Christmas list, Amies hopes everyone comes out to the downtown to partake in the holiday cheer on Thursday evening.
