Lethbridge West will remain orange after voters chose NDP candidate Rob Miyashiro to replace outgoing Lethbridge West MLA Shannon Phillips.

After a close race, Miyashiro edged out UCP candidate John Middleton-Hope by 1,150 votes in the by-election. A total of 13, 561 votes were cast.

“I want to thank everyone who voted for me and everyone who didn’t vote for me, I want you to know that I will work for you. I will represent everyone,” said Miyashiro.

He added that he was ecstatic and very proud to be able to continue on with Shannon Phillips’ legacy as it was thanks to the foundation laid by her that he was able to now continue on.

Alberta NDP leader Naheed Nenshi said he was very happy for Miyashiro’s win and he was very proud to know that the NDP party was able to keep their seat in West Lethbridge.

“This is not a safe NDP seat. But we elected a great candidate, we had incredible campaign, but mostly we look at what the Alberta New Democrats have to offer and say that’s the kind of optimism we’re looking for,” said Nenshi.

He added that Miyashiro’s win sends a clear message to the UCP government.

Outgoing Lethbridge West MLA Shannon Phillips attended the watch party to support her fellow NDP member as results came in and said she was happy to see the results of the NDP party’s efforts paying off now through Miyashiro.

“Rob’s successful results are the result of his hard work, the team that we built that he is continued and the tremendous amount of support here in Lethbridge for the NDP,” said Phillips

She added that she is grateful to the community for their continued support for the New Democratic Party and she is grateful that the support has been extended to Miyashiro.

“We’re now looking at 13 years of really concerted effort to win this seat in Lethbridge West. I don’t think that we can overstate just how incredible it is that we have built a safe seat in one of the hardest regions for New Democrats in the country,” said Phillips.

Well done people of Lethbridge West!

lumpy

And to you, “Say What”, for your lame attempt on this forum at trying to run down the credibility of Mr.Miyashiro.
You can go kick rocks!

buckwheat

And here come the arrogant insults

Kal Itea

what would you say instead of silly comments. say something honorable and respectful like a good “loser” would. signed god.

lumpy

c’mon, Buck, I’ve got an orange crying towel for you!

For snippiness, it seems like the left our winning. At least on this thread for now.
What if some other players in this picture decided to be as catty?
As regards to JMH,”he’s not liked at the police station”.
As regards to RM, “oh good now that he will be gone we can get something done, don’t look too happy that the useless___is gone and doesn’t get anything done as he is always too busy with himself”.

BigBrit

…and don’t forget HP who devoted an equal amount of time denigrating Miyashiro through these columns. Well done Mr Miyashiro.

SophieR

A big loss for social engineering and conspiracy. Well … we’ll wait and see about the conspiracy. Maybe Say What, HP and Bucky plan to storm the Exhibition because the votes were hand-counted by communists.

Strangely quiet from HP on this story. Licking his wounds maybe?

Say What . . .

And to you lumpy since you invited me into this thread by your comment, John Middleton hope has more class in his baby toe then Nenshi and Miyashiro have in their whole bodies combined. One thing I did find was the ignorance found in NDP comments and the lack of intelligent information. But the most important is Nenshi’s recent comments on global news, which shows how classless he is.
In the next couple of years we’re going to see both Nenshi and Miyashiro show their true classless colors just as we saw Miyashiro show his true colors during Council meetings in Lethbridge.
The NDP destroyed my business, along with other businesses many of which did not survive because of the SCS, and NDP policies. The NDP destroyed BC, and cost the taxpayers billions just as they’ve cost Lethbridge taxpayers millions from their property taxes because of their poor policies. So I would take that ignorant comment and have you look in the mirror hard. You have won nothing and Rob has no say in the legislature because he’s not part of government.
Thousands have died because of the failed NDP policies!

Perhaps it wasn’t Middleton-Hope who lost this election, maybe it was the UCP? You can have all the credibility in the world but if people don’t like the party you’re in it’s not going to help.

Say What . . .

Or from disinformation sown by the NDP, such as the APP for one!

gs172

Disinformation? Like the UCP’s claim of over 1\2 of the pension pool by a report they commissioned by people who won’t even put their names on it? By the UCP who won’t even release the results of the poll they had. Disinformation? Yes, but it wasn’t the NDP who put out misinformation it was the UCP. There was plenty of questions that David Carpenter asked in his last opinion piece but only silence on the other side.

“In a refreshing sign of intelligent life on the Great Plains of Alberta, voters in the Lethbridge-West by-election sent New Democrat Rob Miyashiro to the provincial legislature in Edmonton yesterday…..”

Chmie

I got worried that No Hope might win after I saw a lot more of his signs on actual house lawns instead of along roadways where only gophers lived. Fortunately the best candidate won and sent a message to Smith that her policies are unacceptable.

Great addition to the NDP party……its a foreseeable future for Mayashiro-as he strives to be a Sinqh waanabe! So glad west siders picked the right dude lol https://nationalpost.com/opinion/adam-pankratz-jagmeet-singh-cant-see-past-his-maserati-parking-spot

The echo chamber and choir are on here big time. Lol.

You’ve failed here to take a swipe at those pesky academics. Not the first time recently. Are you losing your edge or just filled with the love and joy of the Christmas Season?
