COVEY, Alan
COVEY It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of ALAN DALE COVEY, 69, on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. He was a devoted husband to his wife Karey and a proud father to his children: Jason, Noel, Jennifer, Taya and Jeremy. He is also survived by several grandkids, nieces, a nephew and a brother Niel (Maureen), and sister Theresa (Leroy) Schow.
Al was born in Taber, AB and later moved to Cardston, AB where the family farmed five sections of leased land and raised livestock. The rigors of farm life taught him resilience, resourcefulness, and a steadfast work ethic, shaping Al into a dedicated individual, who approached every challenge with determination.
During his 35-year tenure with the City of Lethbridge as a Senior Project Administrator, Al achieved significant milestones, including developing an innovative inventory system which lead to Lethbridge having the highest rated sideway system in North America. He spoke at numerous world conferences and earned a spot on the National Research Council of Canada. He believed in the power of collaborative partnerships and held the conviction that the true wisdom often came from those working at the end of the shovel.
Al’s passion for sports, both as a spectator and participant, continued from his youth. He enjoyed playing golf, football, basketball, boxing and hockey, and once held a junior Canadian record in the discus. Some of his fondest memories were made during slow-pitch tournaments, where he forged lifelong friendships and countless memories.
Al’s love for Karey, his children and grandkids, were the cornerstone of his life. He took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments. He especially enjoyed the simple joys of life, like family camping under the stars, skiing with his kids, golfing with his harem and sharing laughter around the dinner table. He found great pride and fulfilment in his family and his love for them was evident in everything he did.
Known for his infectious humor and kind spirit, Alan was a radiant beacon of joy and warmth. His presence was cherished by friends, family, and grandkids and his kindness touched every corner of his community. Alan’s daily walks brought delight to local dogs, who eagerly awaited their treats from the ‘treat guy.’ His courage, humour and positivity left an indelible mark on everyone he met, and his zest for life will be fondly remembered by all. Go Packers!
A Celebration of life will be held at EVERGREEN GOLF CENTRE RESTAURANT, 5225 – 24 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1:00 P.M. till 3:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Brain Tumor Foundation of Canada (braintumor.ca)

YATES, Dave
DAVE YATES September 10, 1946 – December 17, 2024 It is with sad hearts that we share the loss of our mom’s best friend and our dad Dave.
Dad was born in Montreal, Quebec, and was raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He left home to train with the R.C.M.P. in 1966. He started his career in Fort McLeod, Alberta and that is where he met the love of his life Pat Barber.
Dad and Mom enjoyed many adventures with the R.C.M.P. that took them to four different provinces. They retired in Lethbridge where Dad enjoyed building golf clubs, travelling, and hanging out with friends and family.
Dad is survived by his best friend, his partner in crime, and his rock, our mom Pat. They were married for 55 years, something Dad was very proud of and didn’t hesitate to tell anyone and everyone! His daughters Kelly (Jim) Greenwood and Debbie (Wayne) Marsh; the apples of his eye, and according to him the best grandchildren in the world, Hailey (Brayden), Ethan, Drew and Nicole; sister Cheryl (Tom) Davis; brother Brian (Shirley) Yates; brothers-in-law Bill (Agnes) Barber and Ed (Jewel) Barber; his nieces and nephews; special cousins Carol (Garry) Dunn and Kathy (Bob) Thomas.
As per Dad’s wishes, there will be no funeral.
One of Dad’s very favourite things in the world was getting together with friends and family to eat, visit and play games. As kids, our friends were always welcome at our house and there was always room for one, two or five more at the table. To honour and celebrate Dad we will have a small family get together. When you find yourself at your next family supper perhaps you could raise a glass and share a favorite story or memory of Dad; he would love this and so would we.
We, the Yatesmarshwood clan, would like to thank all our family and friends who have been the absolute best support system to us throughout Dad’s journey. We wouldn’t have made it without you!
To the Angels on 3-2 at Wascana Rehabilitation – you became like family to Mom and Dad and your compassion, kindness, humour, and visits to Dad in Palliative Care on your own time will never be forgotten. To the amazing team on 5-2, all of you from housekeeping, dietary, care aides, nursing and the medical staff you helped our dad live comfortably and with the grace and dignity everyone deserves in life. We will be forever grateful to you all.
As little girls we had a bedtime ritual with mom and dad. Dad would sometimes sing a little song, but no matter what the same words were said every night. The song hasn’t been sung in a while, but the same words are still said to us when we have family sleepovers, and were said by mom and dad to each other right until the end.
So, Dave/Dad/Papa We love you A bushel and a peck A bushel and a peck And a hug around the neck Good night, God Bless, Love you Pat, K, J, D, W, H, B, E, D, N & H, M, & C xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
Family and friends are invited to leave tributes at http://www.reginafuneralhome.ca. Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
