The Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame is now taking nominations for the 2025 Class.
The categories include for Athlete, Team, Builder Special Award and historical and more details on each of the awards are on the LSHOF’s website.
“It’s very important that we look back and reward and acknowledge great performances by athletes over the years,” said Toby Boulet, LSHOF president.
Boulet spoke about how the Hall of Fame nominations have depicted to the local sports scene over the years.
“I think the community of Lethbridge and the surrounding community of Lethbridge have nominated exceptional people, exceptional athletes and it’s been our job as a board to take these nominations and make sure the right ones get in,” said Boulet.
Boulet emphasized the perceived smaller sports have to be recognized and not just the bigger ones such as ice hockey and basketball.
“We want to recognize any athlete that’s … excelled (and) not just those that have excelled in prestige-type sports,” said Boulet.
There have been some nominations coming in and there are older ones in the fold that are stored for three years.
An athlete nomination can be made after that person has been non-active in playing for five years.
Nominations can be done for sports-related people for things like administration work, efforts in raising money and perhaps how they did communication in sport.
“The more we get, the better it is,” said Boulet.
Nominations can be made until Jan. 31 on the LSHOF’s website at http://www.lethbridgesportshalloffame.ca/nominations/#nomiform.
The Class of 2025 induction Ceremony is on April 25.
The theme of this year’s banquet is expected to be announced soon.
