The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team are set to kick off the second semester of play tonight with wanting more consistency in what will be a tough schedule.

Head coach Dave Waknuk will be looking for more consistency.

“I don’t know that we’ve put it always altogether for 40 minutes and I think that’s still the hunt for us, is to play consistent all the way through without sort of the highs and lows,” said Waknuk. “But I think we’ve gotten better at that and I think this team is capable of that.”

The Horns will look to find success through being healthy and continuous improvements.

“Even though I think we’re at a good level, can we get better, can we make things better as we go?” asked Waknuk.

Waknuk will look to lean on his best players in second semester.

“I think Kyra Collier set the tone with us,” said Waknuk.

“She plays an all-around game; she’s filled the stat sheet in a bunch of different areas and she’s been really consistent for us.”

The Horns will look to Courtney McKee to score the way she has been.

“She’s shown a lot of growth in her second year,” said Waknuk.

Waknuk will lean on others like Tobore Okoyme for her leadership in solid rebounding.

Waknuk also will lean on Kamryn De Klerk.

“She’s  been the motive that’s driven us a lot in important games this year,” said Waknuk.

The Horns will have 12 straight games on six weekened without any breaks to close out the regular season.

“We (have)got three top 10 nationally ranked teams in those six weeks, we also have six weeks in a row without a bye, so it’s challenge for sure,” said Waknuk.

“It doesn’t matter who you play when, everybody’s good in this league. So we’re just going to have to keep getting better and compete at our best.”

Collier thinks the key for them is to play with a confidence level that they play with when they are winning games and playing as a team.

“When we’re passing the ball more than three times offensively, we tend to score high percentage shots and stuff like that. So just focusing on unity within the game play,” said Collier.

Showing perseverance and resiliency is also what Collier feels to be important over the next six weeks.

“It’s going to be tough but we all know it’s going to be tough and we’re ready for it,” said Collier.

The Horns have a 4-4 record and sit in sixth place in their division and the top seven team make playoffs.
