Trudeau, premiers say all options are on the table to respond to Trump’s tariffs

By Canadian Press on January 15, 2025.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada’s premiers say all options are on the table to respond to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose devastating tariffs on Canada.

After meeting with the premiers in Ottawa today to discuss Canada’s tariff strategy, Trudeau emerged to say they had a “commitment to stand together on a united path forward.”

But the show of unity didn’t last long.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, who attended virtually and did not take part in the press conference, said in an online post Alberta won’t be able to support Ottawa’s plan unless restrictions on energy exports to the U.S. are off the table.

Quebec Premier François Legault says all measures are possible, and energy and hydro are possible targets.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said retaliatory tariffs must be “hard” to send a strong message.

I like Doug Ford, he seems to be a nice guy who actually tries. The amusing thing about watching Doug Ford react to Trump is he immediately pulled the “Captain Canada” Routine, rather than approaching from an Ontarion Point of View. Thats not to say, we did not need a Captain Canada but I find it interesting that because Ontario is actually threatened, and “WE” can’t allow that to happen, he summons the rest of the country to assist he and Legault by donning the Captain Canada Hat.
Simple question, where was the “Captain Canada” when Alberta was threatened by Mr Enviro Man in Ottawa? Why was the threat of shutting down Alberta Production not a Captain Canada Issue?
West is an “inconvenient place to the east” , and now that we are key to squeezing Trump. suddenly out of the “targeted Auto Industry comes”…… “Captain Canada”!!!!
Do you think Legault if Milk/Cheese is targeted and suddenly they have excess, that they will discount it…..or dump it in the sewer to make sure prices stay high here? Supply management is a Quebec Industry preservation arrangement.
So where is this Amazing Captain Canada approach when we are being held hostage within?
