The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s basketball team has a share of first place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference South Division.
For now.
Wrapping up their ACAC regular season schedule with a makeup game, the Kodiaks downed the Briercrest Clippers 90-54 Tuesday night in Caronport, Sask. to finish the regular season 13-3.
That ties them with the SAIT Trojans for first in the South Division, but the Trojans have one game left against the St. Mary’s Lightning on Saturday.
The Lightning are 8-7.
On Tuesday night, Adyn Card came off the bench for the Kodiaks to score 18 points, while Chris Schlauwitz and Paycen Blackmore added 14 each.
Jack-Henry Fox-Grey scored 13 points and had nine rebounds and two steals, while Karson Valgardson scored 10.
The Kodiaks also announced their Athletes of the Week Wednesday.
Winning the Female Athlete of the Week award is Kodiaks women’s basketball player Natalie Heninger, while volleyball player Jackson Gaehring gets the nod for Male Athlete of the Week.
A second-year player from Barnwell, Heninger helped the Kodiaks secure second place with a 52-49 win over the Ambrose Lions Friday night in Calgary, putting up 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal.
In Saturday’s 78-44 loss to the SAIT Trojans, Heninger led the team in scoring with 14 points, adding two rebounds and one assist.
In the Kodiaks five-set loss to the SAIT Trojans Saturday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium, Gaehring put up 15 kills, nine digs and one block.
Gaehring is 10th in the ACAC in total kills for the season with 137 and sits 15th in digs with 92.
