Street sweeping underway this month

The city street sweeping program starts on April 12 and residents can expect $25 tickets if they don’t move vehicles out of the way.
The annual program will begin in areas that were missed last year including Tudor Estates, Chinook Heights, Park Royal and Scenic Heights, transportation operations manager Julieane Ruck said Monday.
Those areas were missed after council in 2020 made budget cuts to the sweeping program which prevented crews from hitting all neighbourhoods last year.
After those missed southside areas are done, sweepers will head to the northside starting in Hardieville before heading back to south Lethbridge. Westside areas will follow.
Sweeping notifications are available on the new Lethbridge Loop app which is available for Apple and Android devices.
The city will be posting temporary No Parking signs the day before conducting operations in an area with residents asked to move vehicles before 7:30 a.m. of the day sweeping is scheduled.
Ruck said tickets may be issued if residents don’t comply.
Every spring, City crews clean thousands of tonnes of dirt, sand and other debris from about 580 kilometres of roadways, preventing that material from being washed down storm drains and eventually into the Oldman River.
Night sweeping on arterial roadways and roads in the industrial area will start – weather permitting – on April 10. This program will run from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. for six to eight weeks Sundays to Thursdays.
