The Martha Retreat Centre began its string of Music on the Grounds on Saturday that will take place once a month throughout the summer.
Due to weather, the first performance of Chris Hartman and Jim Robinson was moved indoors to a near full dining room in the Centre.
The shows would normally happen on the grounds with a view down the coulees.
Hartman and Robinson provided old folk and country music on the evening and turned the proceeds that were made back into the centre.
“We started Music on the Grounds as a new way to bring people to the Martha Retreat Centre because during the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions, we weren’t able to bring people into the building,” said Diana Sim, Martha Retreat Centre executive director.
“So we worked at really beautifying the grounds and created programs for the grounds.”
Sim said Music on the Grounds was an opportunity to really experience the Centre.
“All the musicians for the event are local or at least a local connection,” she said.
A silent auction occurs at Music on the Grounds.
The New Testament will be on July 17 from 2-4 p.m., Aug. 21 will see the Bridge Brass Quintet perform from 2-4 p.m. and Craig Ginn will wrap up the event on Sept. 24 from 7-9 p.m.
All the proceeds will go back in the Centre’s upkeep and programs.
