Family Centre West is offering children and their caregivers a chance to create art while enjoying the outdoors through their program Art in the Garden.
Family Centre executive director, Maral Kiani-Tari said this program offers children a way to harness executive functioning skills and a chance to take advantage of their west side location.
“It is very engaging, having children outside in our garden being able to build different social connections, develop hand-eye coordination and being able to utilize imagination,” said Kiani-Tari.
She said this program allows children to harness their talents, develop creativity, inventiveness, and fine motor skills.
“Using our outdoor play space as inspiration, children are encouraged to use natural materials from the environment to create art,” said Kiani-Tari.
She said this program has been running for many years and usually has a good turn out.
“The program is well loved by the community, and of course through different times of the season as people are in and out of the city, there’s different turn out but it is a program that’s well loved by our community,” said Kiani-Tari.
She said due to its popularity, the program will be offered consistently as it is beneficial for the community as a whole.
“Getting connected with our children’s brain activities, as well as building that social connection, is very important for the health of our community in the future, and just getting connected to the community that way is really valuable,” said Kiani-Tari.
The program is offered on Thursdays from 9:30-11 a.m., and wraps up for the season on Aug. 25.
