Magic-science show mesmerizes Whoop-Up crowds

Whoop-Up Days visitors had the opportunity to witness what the combination of magic and science could do at the All About Science demonstration that was put on by Andrew Pogson.

“All About Science is a show that tours coast-to-coast teaching and promoting science in a unique, fun way that performs in theatres, cruise ships and of course fairs and festivals,” said Pogson.

All About Science is an interactive show with plenty of audience participation and surprises.

“We use lots of magic just to kind of create that engagement and then breaking it down as a science principle,” said Pogson.

“Yeah a lot of surprises, a lot of comedy and … that interaction with the kids is what really engages the unknown moments that occur in a communicative way.”

Pogson said there’s a close relationship, when asked about intertwining magic with science.

“It’s kind of turning the impossible into reality, into possible,” he said.

“So using some of those techniques and technologies from the magician magic world allows to kind of engage them and again breaking down into the curiosity to explain what the science principle is behind it.”

The show often garners moments of what Pogson called the “moment of astonishment.”

“But again it’s those aha moments and those very basic light bulbs that go off of a lot of things that seems logical, but it’s the illogical that makes it interesting,” he said.

Things discussed in the show included density friction, buoyance and other objects that explain each principle.

“The food, the rides, the people – just a ton of fun – and the weather has actually been pretty good,” he said, on his Whoop-Up Days experience.
