Bikers Building Bridges worked with other community organizations to host its fourth annual Trunk or Treat Halloween drive thru at Exhibition Park on Saturday night.

The event saw 1,200 registered kids come in a drive-thru style and receive candy from various organizations who had decorated vehicles and employees dressed up in costumes.

“It’s grown every year,” said Chris Plumb, Bikers Building Bridges president. “We’ve gotten 30 some odd trunks this year and looking to grow more each year. We’ve gotten different groups. So there’s some other bike groups and other kids programs here, there’s non-profits and charities and businesses as well. What they do is bring a vehicle down, decorate it, bring candy and kids drive through with their families and they go trunk to trunk and get tons of candy.”

Plumb said it works well with kids with disabilities that cannot normally trick or treat with their siblings.

“It gives them that ability to feel like they’re a part of everything else,” said Plumb.

It is important for the organization to run an event like this because it makes trick or treating safe.

“It also shows that every kid that comes through here with their parents, they see all these groups of people getting together for the greater good,” he said.

“My belief is if we get to them when they’re young and we show that it takes a community to work a community that they’re going to have that same philosophy through life.”

There were 1,250 kids registered for the free event.

BBB is planning a visit with Santa around Christmas time where they are going to hand out 100 turkeys and meals to families.

Coffee and hot chocolate are also handed out by members on Remembrance Day.

The non-profit organization has been in Lethbridge for six years and work with youth at risk and through a Stand Strong program where their equipment is paid for and provides a 10-punch card membership to allow those kids to participate in jujitsu and kickboxing.

BBB also puts together a fund to help disabled kids by purchasing equipment that is not covered under health care or any programs.

The group fundraise all year round.
