A new framework for regional collaboration was signed on Monday between the St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID), Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District (LNID) and Lethbridge County.

The collaboration framework requires the parties meet regularly to discuss potential projects and opportunities for collaboration, as well as the guidelines for how project budgets will be determined. The term of the agreement is in effect from Oct. 1, 2019 to Sept. 30, 2021.

According to Lethbridge County officials, the agreement will provide the three parties with a guide for future partnerships for the benefit of citizens and businesses in the area.

“We were pleased to sign this agreement today,” said Ann Mitchell, Lethbridge County chief administrative officer. “Irrigation plays a critical role in the economy of our region. We understand the importance of collaboration with the irrigation districts and look forward to what the future brings now that we have a solid framework to work with.”
